I must admit that I have used the odd naughty word on occasions, (which I agree, there is no need for)
e.g. the "Bruce" thread, where I was accused (more or less) of being CA). sorry George, lost it a bit on that one ;D
So George, if I ever use a swear word again on here you have my permission ;) to ban me forthwith.
You do a good job, as far as you can, keep it up.

Swearing = immediate Ban.

I find bad language in a thread very upsetting
There seems something worse about actually writing the word, rather than speaking it
If it's written down, it's completely intentional and intended to offend
Which it does

Many thanks for the positive comments in support of my attempts to rid this great forum of bad language and the small group of people who continue to use it here.

The 1 month trial has started. Our 'Swedish' friend has already self-incriminated himself. Let's see how the other alleged offenders get on.

In my book, full spellings and a block of asterisks (bowdlerised versions as Phil calls it, and trys to wriggle out of responsibility) are equally bad.

I just do not see the point of using profanity in a public forum.  So the words we all know, and many use, including myself in certain company, have become common place in our modern world.  I personally don't think it is a better place for it.  My vote is NO George. Keep up the good work.

Hear hear.  Well said, Livo.  I would, however, allow the use of Bowdlerised versions, so if someone wanted to write (for example) "tasted like sh1te", I would allow it.   By Bowdlerising the spelling, the author is shewing that he/she is aware that the un-Bowdlerised form is unacceptable, but is still able to express him/herself such that others can recognised what he/she wishes to say.  Of course, such usages should still be very much the exception rather than the rule.

** Phil.

Personally, I couldn't care less if there are swear words or not, if someones kids might see it, or maybe their 'little woman'. But, why would you want to say a recipe tastes like...

Why not say what you don't like about it, how it could be improved, not congratulating folks for nothing, but lending a bit of support.

This is more important than some witchhunt for 4-letter words.

I believe that there are many worse crimes committed on here than the occasional swear word. Like ongoing vendettas against former members or ridiculing of members' efforts.

I think that the latter needs to be tackled before the former, as it is a bigger issue, and more likely to put off new members than someone saying 'feck off'

From working in many pubs I can tolerate any language, but can also follow and respect the rules, so I'm not to fussed and will follow the majority vote.  ;)

Profanity riddled language can be colourful and in it's right place, when used with intelligence and meaning, even expressive, entertaining or humorous.  In other instances it is just unnecessary and completely vulgar.  I cringe when I hear female comedians using expletives just for the sake of it, whereas a talented artist knows just how and when it is appropriate to drop an F-bomb.  I seriously dislike some of the more contemporary "music", and I use the term music loosely, as I simply don't accept the pretence of their method of operation.  The works of the late Jim Morrison, and others,  Alanis Morisset for example, I find acceptable.

There is a big difference in watching Billy Connolly on TV and seeing him do a live performance. It's all about context and appropriateness.  The forum has deemed it to be inappropriate here. End of story as far as I'm concerned.
