Newbie making a base
« on: June 05, 2014, 07:45 AM »
Hey all,

Long time curry enthusiast, new comer to these forums. Finally I've learned that there is a group of people dedicated to making my favourite kinds of curry at home. The curry I have made in the past has usually been pretty good but nothing like those served by the local indian restaurants (I live in Australia).

Looking to make up a big batch of base sauce and get started on making some BIR style curries of my own (which I have been led to believe are very similar to the aussie IR style curries).

Was thinking of starting with this one:

Has anyone made this? If so, is it worth doing? I'll be making a lot, obviously so I'd like to get some opinion on whether or not it will be any good. If anyone knows of a better, or easier to make one please feel free to recommend stuff.

Thanks all!!!

Quite popular here; just search for all posts by user "bigboaby1" (e.g., this one)  and you will find the recipes and discussions.

Not so keen on the G;asgow bases- they seem far more oily. But fair play on em

Haven't made the one you put up, but have made this one, and it was good:

I diveded everything by 4. So 40 onions=10 onions, 12 TBS mix powder = 3 TBS , etc.
Also I didn't make the Spice Stock, but I added 2 cinnamon sticks to the actual onion base.
