Les Restaurants Indien de Bordeaux
« on: August 28, 2013, 02:06 PM »
Off to Bordeaux on my hols in a couple of weeks and have been checking out some of the local curry houses online.

Anyone been before and tried them?

I have had curries in France before and its interesting to see the differences between there and here.

Bordeaux, yes; les restaurants Indien de Bordeaux NON !  I have tried Indian food just once in France, and it was /awful/ -- the tandoori chicken smelt putrid, and the rest was almost inedible.  French cuisine is the best in the world; when in Bordeaux, eat at a Bordeaux auberge is my advice.  And if you choose to ignore it (!), this page may assist.

Lol thanks Phil. Maybe the BIR way is too deep in your pores. That's like saying when in Britain, just eat roast beef and fish and chips - then where would we be.

Maybe you had a dodgy restaurant. Like I said, curries are different in France, and served differently, but that is part of the enjoyment and experience. I'm there for 6 nights so one night of curry will do, the rest I reserve for mussels :)

I'm not a steak lover (especially entrecote) so will avoid like the plague. Altough did once have a thin steak with gorgonzola sauce in Paris which Mrs G still talks about with delight.

Anyway, going to go for either

or

A full report to follow :)

Would love to see reports of any place you visit in France. I have had only one Indian meal in France which was in a restaurant in Paris - not great but not terrible either. It was clear however that compared to say Chinese or Italian restaurants, that Indian food was in short supply in Paris anyway.

There are some good places in Paris, all around Gare du Nord. The food is Tamil, so good for dosa and other snacks.

The curry is good in a few, especially the traditional meat on the bone canteens, this is not BIR and is heavily South Indian. I haven't eaten a good one anywhere else ( I lie, one exception).

Mrs G will only eat the chicken breast - we had one once in Paris too where the waiter brought out this big platter of legs and thighs on a  platter. her face was a picture :)
