No, I was very pleasantly suprised, both at the quality of the chicken and at the flavour of the dish.

Sorry Phil, tried one for the first time myself, as they were on offer (weekend only), what a disappointment.

Well unless you like a half chicken covered in, what I can only describe as tasting like, a lightly spiced tomato soup.

Ah well, each to their own.  My wife and I were certainly impressed, and neither of us would have described the sauce as "a lightly spiced tomato soup".

Having problems here imagining how it might be any good.

I can't understand why. I rate most of Lidl's chilled food dishes. They are mostly made by Noon, the industry leader. Some people will never be persuaded and, therefore, I think they miss out. Their loss. Do you subscribe to the absurd theory that you only get what you pay for and, if the price is low, it can't be any good?

Well, to be fair the only Lidl chilled food dish I have tried is the lasagna, and it wasn't good (never had a good one from any supermarket).

Plus, ready meals from the main supermarkets which I have tried have mainly been disappointing... chicken like rubber etc.

I shop in Lidl quite often, so next time I am in I will buy a couple and try them out.  Hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Always looking for good quality at low price, so I'm open to suggestions.

Interesting, can I ask how you would describe the sauce Phil?

Now, as I had only eaten a tin of Lidl's tomato soup the day before, and haven't had the Piri Piri before, that is all I can honestly say it reminded me of.
Agree chicken was fine though.

My wife's words : "A kind of Spanish-type flavour, a little bit more spicy".  I would personally describe it as a mild piri-piri flavour (much less fiery than my own) that benefits from the additional herbs that I do not use.
