Juliennes of ginger

Guys i have seen various references to juliennes of ginger used raw, cooked, in the dish or as a garnish and wondered what opinions were out there?

When I order a Lamb Korai from my local it usually comes with some juliennes of ginger on top. I think it is raw ginger but it goes straight in the bin.

When I order a Lamb Korai from my local it usually comes with some juliennes of ginger on top. I think it is raw ginger but it goes straight in the bin.

Why is it that I regard this as sacrilegious and insane behaviour (i.e., to order something that one knows one does not like some part of, and will subsequently bin), yet regard as perfectly normal the fact that when I order a lamb biryani I (a) know it will come accompanied by a bland, boring vegetable curry, and (b) that I have absolutely no intentions of eating any part of the latter no matter how hungry I may be ?  I am forced to admit it would seem that I have dual standards !

Whenever I order a byriani, I always ask if they would swop the yucky vegetable curry for an aloo methi which is one of my favourite vegetable dishes and I've never had anyone say no so far. If they know the dish and know how to cook it (which most decent BIR's should) they swop it.

If you don't ask, you don't get ;)

I shall try that !  I do (always) ask the Taj if they will replace the thrice-accursed Chicken Tikka Masala in their set meal for two with something infinitely more appetising (and invariably cheaper, to boot) and Arus has always willingly agreed, but I still feel it is a bit of a cheek ...

Hi Edwin, I wouldn't be adverse to eating the ginger if used as a garnish, but I would prefer it cooked within the dish.

Paul/Phil can you not ask for the offending components to be removed or replaced? I often replace the veg curry with an alternative side dish when ordering a biryani. Just a thought. ;)

I don't know what all that fuss is about Phil. No it's not insane because the Lamb Korai is delicious. I just don't like raw ginger that much and find it a little pretentious.

I could ask for them not to do it but I doubt they know the word julienne and I'd probably end up with no peppers instead.

There is no "fuss", Paul : I was publicly admitting, with some embarrassment, that I clearly have dual standards when it comes to ordering foods a part of which one will not eat ...
