Having attended the Gurkha Gig on Saturday at Benenden and met both Pemba Lama (author of The Ultimate Nepalese Cook Book) and Annie Watsham, organiser of the Gig and publisher of the Cook Book, I have now raised with Annie the idea of Pemba offering a masterclass in Gurkha/Nepalese cookery.  As Pemba lives in Basingstoke, it obviously makes more sense for him to host such a class in Hampshire than (say) Kent, where Annie & I both live, and given the excellent turnout for the "Picnic in the Park" a year or so ago, as well as the number of members who are in or near Fleet, I thought that such an event could well prove viable.  If you might be interested in attending such an event later this year, do please let me know; I will then liaise further with Annie and Pemba with a view to getting a firm price and we can then take it from there.

Really surprised that this had not attracted any interest.  Is the idea of a Gurkha/Nepalese masterclass in or around Basingstoke really not of any interest to CR0 members ?

I'm afraid it is a trip too far for me at the moment Phil. The expense of getting to Basingstoke and then the cost of the masterclass I simply cannot justify unfortunately. Especially as my culinary journey is going in a different direction at the moment. Otherwise I would have been very interested in attending.

Perhaps if you were to find out roughly how much such an event would cost, others might be interested?

That is indeed my plan, Malc, but unless there is real evidence of interest I don't want to push Annie & Pemba prematurely.  Better (IMHO) to tell them (e.g.,) "there are 14 CR0 members who would be interested in attending if the price were acceptable" and then ask them to cost the event than to put them to the trouble of costing the event in advance only to find that there was insufficient interest to justify organising it.

All other points understood, and my thanks also to Nick for his expression of interest.
