can anyone here play this on guitar???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXqPYte8tvc

Wow! His fingers look like ETs!

So can anyone play this?  :D He looks like a muppet, but plays like someone from another planet. Check out the unearthly activities around 4.20!!   :o

Strong on technique, this chap but his music leaves me a bit cold. He also can play left and right handed guitar simultaneously - truly bizarre, truly gimmicky, but also truly wonderful in a tacky sort of way if that makes sense.

Can anybody here play the guitar to pub-based cover band standard?

Yes I can George, and can probably play slightly beyond that to some degree in that I can play some technically difficult rock music by the likes of Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. A few years ago I used to teach guitar several nights a week through our local arts centre. You get so much back from teaching and you playing improves to boot. Having said that you can't beat a bit of David Gilmour - not technically difficult but boy does he have an ear for choosing the right notes.

Wow, I'm impressed. Cooking a good curry should be so easy by comparison.

Do they get different sounds (for different songs) via settings on effects boxes?

Nice, Satriani, Vai, some of the greats, but there are so many other greats i've followed.

I dedicated myself to Angus Young, but used to thrash out the usual pub favourites.

George the actual guitarists themselves have different sounds because they use different guitars, amps, strings etc. and of course the biggest contributor to their unique sound is how they play - every guitarist has an individual vibrato for instance. In a pub band though some guitarists will use little boxes that "digitally model" an amp and effects set-up that provides an emulation of one sound that is a likeness but falls short of being an actual clone and may in fact be missing that elusive 5%.

Does that sound familiar lol?

Angus is of course a true star, and Bon Scott was born in the town of Kirriemuir which is about 14 miles from my home. Along with Angus I would of course include the likes of Blackmore, Page etc. as among my favs.

For me, this was the world's greatest guitarist ever, and I am only sorry I never watched him play live.

As I recall did he not refer to John Williams as "the prince of guitar?"

I regard the acoustic guitar played in a classic style by John Williams and others as a completely different instrument to the electric guitar. I quite liked one or two tracks from the band 'Sky' which he worked with.

I rate just two or three tracks from many bands and not much else. This includes the Rolling Stones and U2 for my taste or distate. They each have a few good tracks and that's all. I can't understand how these bands are so huge.
