For those of us who still think of a guitar as the instrument played by Andres Segovia, John Williams, Narcisso Yepes & Manitas de Plata, what exactly is/are "line 6 pod x3 live + isp decimator + maxon od808" ?!

a Line6 pod x3 live is a floor board with multiple configurable channels that is capable of emulating some fantastic amplifiers and effects and can have 2 amplifiers simulators run at the same time. IOW, the amount of sounds this can make is limitless. An ISP decimator is hands down the best noise supressing pedal out there. Maxon od808 is an overdrive pedal. It basically boosts the guitar signal and tighten up your amp's sound. I can't relate to the musicians below other than Segovia, who is a classical player and probably wouldn't benefit of this equipment :)

I saw this group (Jon butler trio) about a year ago, an Australian band. Check this song out, the guitarist playing a song on solo guitar, tracks called ocean. It's rockin around 4 mins in to it. Awesome!! Think its played on an 11 string acoustic not 12.

WOW!!!!

We hear a lot of John Butler commercial stuff on radio over here. I didn't realise he can actually play. That was fantastic. I must make an effort to go watch them live next time they play.

I'm watching that thinking hang on, there's a string missing, then proceed to count the pegs, then noticed the nut, stone the crows an 11 string guitar!

Only then did I see you comment. ::)

Oh! And the "V" was due to the influence of Andy Powell and Wishbone Ash, may their music last forever!

I now prefer Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash, to Andy Powell's version.

Can anybody here play the guitar to pub-based cover band standard? I quite frequently enjoy such music and it never ceases to amaze me how much talent there is out there, or how they manage to reproduce the sounds of so many different artists, quite so well.

Yes I can George, and can probably play slightly beyond that to some degree in that I can play some technically difficult rock music by the likes of Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. A few years ago I used to teach guitar several nights a week through our local arts centre. You get so much back from teaching and you playing improves to boot. Having said that you can't beat a bit of David Gilmour - not technically difficult but boy does he have an ear for choosing the right notes.

Yamaha SG2000 (showing my age)

But such a great guitar - has been re-issued in the last few years.
