Thanks Admin I went down Brick lane and had a great time wondering around the stores there and stocked up on a bunch of spices including a jar of Asafoetida which I couldn't find anywhere else, a tava and some of those stainless steel balti type serving dishes just like our logo.

I did wonder if I would have triggerred an MI5 investigation as I put the tava in my luggage at Gatwick.

The range of stores and goodies was fantastic however prices were higher than Glasgow

I took in the excellent Bengal Cuisine Resteraunt for a meal. They do a "Cook Your Own" session on Monday and Tuesday nights so could be worth a visit. I had Bhajis with the Yellow Sauce then Vegatable Dhansak and Spinach with Cottage Cheese with Paneer (outstanding, anyone got a recipe?)  with Pulou Rice.

On leaving the street at the Underground end there is a resteraunt with plate windows overlooking the chefs station so you can see right into the pot of base sauce (not as thick as the Dark Lord's) and I expect all the action when its open. An opportunity for someone to loiter with intent.

So thanks again Admin well worth a visit for anyone in or going to London.

I know that this is a thread about London stores but I have seen Glasgow mwntioned on here several times.
Can anyone please tell me where the  good asian spice stores are in Glasgow or Edinburgh, or indeed anywhere in Scotland. I use one in Dundee at the moment but they are very small and don't always have what I need.

Drummond Street, just behind Euston Station, has not only the best kebab house in London (well, maybe one of the two best, the other being Lahore 1 in Commercial Road) but also a first-class Indian grocers and an Indian desert shop plus several related enterprises ...

Hi Johnboy,

I have been away for a couple of weeks so missed your request till now. Indeed on my travels I visited my favourite store in Glasgow although not as big as the Brick Lane Indian supermarkets it has everthing at good prices.

You will find it down Woodlands Road coming away from Charring Cross on the right hand side by the roundabout next to the comedy club (Old School).

Don't know about Edinburgh but the above store has cooking utensils as well.

There are others in the area along Great Western Road too.

Cheers Panpot

I know it is West of the City but Southall is the dogs whatsits for me.  I got all my stuff there when I lived in Berkshire and still go there from the Island if we need a major stock refurbishment (an of course some damn good Ruby's)

Happy Cooking
