Hi Steve, yes I was well into model planes for a few years but seem to have lost the bug. I just have the remains of the hobby, ie. house full of planes, drawers full of servos, wire, connectors, propellers, etc.. I should probably sell up or get back into it.

I never dipped my toe into jets, too expensive, but I was playing with some nice 12S electric setups in 50cc size airframes. And EDF is good fun. I admire your endeavour in making your own jet, you must have some serious engineering skills.

Dont give up mate, youll regret it! its always good to fall back on, yes i have about 15 planes and an rpg, regards the jets ive built engines right from the first fd3/64 by kurt shreckling, unfortunatly this suffered over heating problems, the kj66 was then developed and plans became available, so i built it! i have lathe and milling machinary but there not brilliant but did the job with the exception of the compressor wheel and turbine wheel, ive ran it up a few times just in the proccess of building a trainer airframe, all good stuff, ive yet to fly my lovely scale piper cub with an asp120 fourstroke, again! its my summer evening flyer  but with the weather the way its been shes not come out to play, ive just collected my easy pigeon glider for my holiday next year down in dorset, right on the coast, great for soaring, cheap, well built, its an artf model theres no way you could buy all the stuff to build it for the price its cost!MAD! keep it up, once youve sold up youll want it all back!

Oh forgot to mention, the jet engine has cost me around

Used be into the cars, trucks and buggy's. Still got a HPI savage and a Tamiya Blackfoot, sometimes get the bug and think about getting the trucks out but haven't for a good while now.
Used to fix them as well, also paint the bodywork for people it got a little too much when i realised how much stuff i had got so sold everything and just kept the two trucks. Have also delved into the motorbikes a bit tricky to drive but once you get it they are excellent.

It looks such high quality, not unlike the factory made units strapped to the guy who flew across the English Channel.

But, even at the minimum spinning speed needed to get it working, isn't that ultra fast and potentially quite dangerous if it all came apart? Do you have photos of the inside of the engine showing the main component parts?

Thanks for the compliment, im not the worlds best engineer but i get by with a little care. idle speed of this engine is 40,000 rpm,,,,, full throttle is 120,000 rpm, 16lb thrust, the turbine/compressor wheel and shaft have been balanced on an electronic balancer,  it will run on paraffin/kerosene turps, deisel, whitespirits, avgas, lamp oil, whatever youve got at hand i suppose. i will try to uploads some pics, had trouble yesterday uploading so unclefrank(site member) had to upload them for me,

Yep, u could say I'm into RC aircraft. My garage is full of them from hotliners to sailplanes. My favourite gas got to be my flair magnatilla though.(although my wot4 Is great fun also) Built it with my dad around '85 and have flown it pretty much yearly ever since.even flew it at a show in Germany once.

Always wanted a gas turbine(I am an aircraft engineer by trade-currently with Easyjet)

The kj66 has been around some time and has good spares/support when u need.

Hi matt, cant beat flying, love it, i started in about 1980, ive been today, sunday is my day and its flying day, not sure where your located but im in the west midlands, i fly just off junction 11 m6 motorway. club called waslall model aero club, not to be confused with greenacres club walsall. i wanted a flair kit sometime back it was the astrahog, lovely model, but now opted for a space walker, so that will be just nice for the spring, hopfully have the jet built up too for its final test run, regards the kj66 yes theirs plenty who do a good  back up service, built 80% of mine but good to know for quick spares.
