Found my way here via twitter.  Natterjack sent me a recipe for pilau rice (thanks a lot!!) and suggested I have a look at the site.

I normally have at least one curry dish a week (normally from the "new curry secret" book and I make tarka dhal pots quite often as lunch time snacks for myself and my wife.

The main problem I have is sourcing ingredients, when I first moved to Devon (from Nottingham) I struggled to get whole cloves!!

As a newbie can anyone recommend some good recipes to start with? My favourite out of the Kris Dhillon book is karahi meat, so if there is something similar (or better  ) that people would recommend I will give it a go!

I would recommend you start with any of Cory Ander's recipes (CA ) .. they're a doddle to follow and give great results ... perfect place to begin your journey through this forum IMHO ..

If you have a look at the structure of the forum, starting at the main page here: https://curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php there are individual sub sections for recipes for base sauce, starters, main dishes (subdivided into types like madras, etc) and a quick scan of any of these subsections will show you what are the most popular recipes based on number of replies.

It's also worth checking out the "group tests" section where the results of previous group tests are listed. These are where members all cook the same recipes and score them. Sadly it doesn't work so well for main dishes as people typically have different base sauces to hand, so 5 people cooking the same madras might actually be cooking 5 different dishes if their base sauce was cooked to a different recipe.

Well anyway I'm sure you'll have a look around and see for yourself.

Welcome to the forum.  CA's recipes are a very good starting point, give excellent results and are very well written.  But do check out all the others too.  There are many recipes on here that are equally as good, Chewy Tikka's to name but one.

I'll definately try a lot of recipes!

There is SOOO much info on this site I'll probably be reading a lot before trying anything, big thanks to natterjack for pointing me here!!
