I was originally unsure of the meaning of this thread. I can see clearly now.

how do you know which fireworks are "safe" to hold?
I can never tell which ones go wizz
and
which ones go bang

Trial and error.

It just goes whoosh!

I used to know idiots who would chuck bangers at each other
I never did anything which I felt might be risky

Holding fireworks, as in the video, looks like a very chancy thing to do

Take a look at the "used" fireworks on the day after
They blow out of their cardboard, at all sorts of points, and clearly get extremely hot
