Sorry to have been so tardy in getting back, been a bit hectic lately.

That link looks really good, I'll surely be checking it out in detail.

I thought that Singapore food was the best,  you could get any type you wanted.  The fabled Boogie Street was something else, not only was the parade of the Kyties (boy girls) spectacular (never go there withoug your wife/partner) the food as well, buy a bit from this stall, a bit from that stall and so on, the amazing thing is, everything arrived at the same time.

Anyway, this was back in the 70's, all gone now,but the food mmm mmmm.

Lets Talk Curry / Re: Rice?

Hi all

Bit late in replying to this thread, but only just joined ???

I love rice nearly in a its forms, well, perhaps not as a desert.  Struggled for years to get just that "restaurant" taste and quality, until in desperation, my wife let me buy a good rice cooker, not cheap, but it did the job right from the first cooking.  It will also make cakes :-\

I think though that the real secret in good rice is to clean it thoroughly, get all of the starch out, and then cook.

Hi all,

I remember back in the foggy 1970's when as a squaddie I was posted to Singapore for a stint.  Talk about fantastic, what a place for Asian cusine lovers.

I used to take my two nippers 7 and 5 at the time to the local village and get Prathas (yes Singapore ones are spelt that way it seems) with quite a runny curry sauce that was delivered in a tin can, top hanging by a thread of tine, (well, how would you hold it?)  I hate to say it, but the sauce look like washing up water, but oh my what a taste. Since then, I have been trying to find the recipe all to no avail.

Is there anyone out there in curry land in the know.

I have had a look around the recipes section, but I'll be in my 120's before I find it ??? ??? ;D

Hi Stephen,

Yup, had a small look around, mainly on the sauces and gravies, just really looking forward to getting stuck in to try them.  Think I'll start at number 1 and work my way down ;D ;D

Like you, cant really make up my mind as to which curry I prefer, just like them all really, but if pushed, I would have to say any type that have peppers and "things",  right through to Japanese Katsu. (or is that taboo on a BIR site :-\

Hi,

Just joined, and this looks like a great place to learn to cook great food.

I'm rapidly approaching 70, been a squaddy, copper and IT manager in my time.  Have been an avid curry lover since I was knee high to the proverbial.

I've only just started cooking curries, my poor wife's kitchen is sure taking a beating, still, she does get time off now  ???

I also like Japanese cuisine and have started out on Sushi, all fingers and thumbs, but what the heck, its all good fun.

Hi curry gurus,

My reason for being a bit backward in introducing myself (will do that next) is lack of cooking knowledge, but I do not have a fear of being a newbie, after all we all started somewhere.

Look forward to catching up on all the goodies here.

Rick
