Trainee Chefs / Beginners Questions / Coconut oil ?
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:03 PM »
Just dropped my first clanger I think ???..on an ingredient buying trip in a local Asian shop,I bought a bottle of KTC coconut oil (it seemed a good idea at the time).
But on searching this forum,I can't find any reference to it :P have I dropped a boo boo ? or does it have it's uses ?

Curry Base Chat / First attempt !

Only recently joined the forum, and after lots of reading,I decided to make my debut using SnS's base and Madras recipies,as it appeared a tad more idiot proof than some of the others ;D
I misread the ingredients list, and therefore started with only one carrot, and considerably less than 20 grams of coriander stalks...I used the stems of an entire bundle of coriander, but even they barely moved the scales :o
However,I followed the instructions dutifully, and to my immense surprise,it turned out really well.I reckon for looks, aroma and taste I would give it 8 out of 10 compared to the real thing.
I'm looking forward now to a bit more fact finding on these forums and a few tweaks to produce even better curries.I've been ordered by the missus to produce a Korma by this evening :o...she wouldn't eat the madras, but she was impressed by the smell 8)
So thanks to SnS for your recipies, off now to find something a bit milder ;)

Just saying hello :)...I dabbled with making 'proper' curries many years ago, although I achieved decent texture and appearance,I could never manage to achieve the taste that I was looking for,and so gave up ::)
I've decided to give it another try,as the chilled curries I currently buy from Asda, whilst not too bad taste wise, are IMO exorbitantly priced.
So here's to more nagging from 'the wife' who hates the smell of garlic ;D ;D ;D
