During the wilderness years, before making my own curries, the Chicken Naga Jalfrezi popular on the TA speciality lists here in Birmingham was a safe bet.  Love the taste of Mr. Naga.  Pile it in.  It gives a rather satisfying indigestion. Liking the look of King and Queen Naga.  Auto-purchase!

Thanks everyone for your input and experiences, I'll give it another go at the weekend but use much less this time.

In Mr Naga available online as I haven't seen it my local Indian grocers.

I got mine off eBay although if I still don't gel with it there might be an almost full jar going spare if someone wants it for the price of postage (paypal accepted)  ;D

It's well worth trying to source it from an Asian supermarket/wholesaler. I'm not sure how much you pay on eBay, but the cheapest I've seen it online is

Ahh!  Nearly bought a bought a jar of Queen Naga online for ?4.50, but the postage was an additional ?4.50.  Im not paying that. No stockists in the West Midlands either.  Will have to stick with Mr. Naga for now; always under 2 quid a jar in the Asian shops near me.

I must agree it does change the taste of a dish and as someone who cannot help but put it in to everything I am glad I am out of it for a while.
Very rarely can I stick to a stock curry IE a madras. I tend to open the cupboard and throw everything I find in it and lately I have tried to stop diong this.

Last night I slipped up by making what should of been a madras but with the addition of a fair amount of new potatoes and okra thrown in. I mainly do this to bulk the up the meal to make it last for a few days but I rarely post a picture to this site as all my dishes end up as hybrids.

I too make good use of the Ahmed chilli pickle and find it is a safer bet than Mr Naga.

I'm with you mate. I bought a jar off ebay, cost me $17 delivered. It is definitely not to my taste.

I much prefer Asian (Chinese) chilli oil.....must try this in place of Naga on Julians Jaflon recipe

Gets my vote every time in the phall and on the poppadums.  But this thread just goes to prove how different our tastes are and what we're used to :D

Just read the following off the Mr Vikkis site regarding the Queen Naga...

"Mr Vikki's Queen Naga pulls no punches, you might initially be disappointed by the size of the jar you receive, but I can guarantee you only need a small sample to give yourself stomach ulcers."

Probably not a good bit of marketing!
Now please do tell me... Does eating too much spicey food (especially curry) give you stomach ulcers?
Has anybody had any problems with their health (apart from piling on a few pounds) that they equate to too much spicey food etc?

My former g.p., herself from the sub-continent, once said to me "Curry, worry, chilli : very bad for tummy".  She added black coffee to the list, too :(
