Those three pots look really excellent. Whoever made them did a first class job by the look of it. Was that ?20 each or ?20 for all three? Your diagram for the stainless steel chamber looks spot on. Will you be adding vermiculite or something as an insulator?

Cheers George

I do need some insulation of some type but having a hell of a job trying to find any - the chamber might even be square if its easier

27 squid all 3 mate ( including some stainless steel rod ) - I hope to complete the job in the next couple of weeks

best, Rich

The teracotta will stand up fine just keep it dry,
Ive made a couple now but the british damp weather does take its toll and now take ages to get it propper hot
ie naan cooking but tikkas and sheeks are fine

I love places like Thailand where it's possible to get great things made at very reasonable prices. Can you imagine buying such pots in the UK? If they were a standard design - a take it over leave it model - then they might cost perhaps one or two hundred quid each. But if you asked for custom specials like you have - I think the variations you've incorporated are brilliant - they'd nearly fall over laughing before saying that set up costs would be about a grand, plus another grand for each special pot.

Vermiculite may be available there from gardening centres, or try loft (fibreglass type) insulation. I found it holds up surprisingly well to the intense heat.

You have a good point there George, and it just relates back to good old, "Rip Off Britain"..... :(

If you would be prepared to accept Thai living conditions/lifestyle/wages that I have been reading about then I'm sure the UK could match those prices  ::)

Guys - there is a lot of ripping off here too!
But having said that there is a lot more of the old fashioned trust as well a deal is a deal with the working class - ie the potter he didnt know me from Adam and was prepared to make a tandoor from my guidance - and i paid a small deposit and didnt get in touch with him for 2 weeks - i went back as arranged and they took it out of the brick kiln - i should have had a camera for the whole thing to document - next time!!!
The working class people here are so brilliant - the problem lies in the Western influence
Unfortunately the quality of life cannot be matched between here and in the UK - if you are prepared to go a miss on things which you can readily have there. Dont get me wrong im British through and through - but lets be honest its cold damp and wet at the mo - we sat in the garden and ate watermelon from the fridge yesterday - it was 32 degrees and it is just starting with the hot season.

And the markets to say the least are a curry mans dream!! fresh chilies, coriander, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers

best, Rich

Cheers George - i am trying to get hold of insulation but its a heck of a hard job - im sure it will happen eventually.

The garden centres are NOT the same as the UK with an abundance of bits and bobs - that is one thing with this place - they are trying to become more western because of the westerners living here suggesting to their Thai partners and friends how to make these businesses but its a long long way short.
