Plant Updates
« on: June 29, 2008, 12:15 AM »
How is everyones plants doing?

My Jalapeno, Numex and Habernero are still infants... I really hope the summer picks up a little so I can get a crop from these some time :(

I had to give some of my cayennes away as I had way too many for my house - dont have a green house. I have kept a few for myself. Anyone know why the wee one is not growing as well as the big one? lol.... ????

Here is how my coriander and methi is doing :D

Hi Chris, the small plant is showing signs of nitrogen deficiency, but this is probably because the bigger plant is assimilating all of the nutrients faster than the little one. When a plant has that many nodes(the number of sets of branches it has put out) it really needs a pot all of its own. Its the same with most plants, the root is the most important part. I find poly bags work better than pots as they retain moisture better and as the soil dries out the bag shrinks around the compost so no air or light get on the delicate root. Nice little collection you have there, all the best

The Cayenne at the left has grown to a crazy size!!!!

Two of my smaller cayennes which I repotted as the were not getting the nutrients as suggested. and at the far right my numex/twilight.

Great pictures Chris your plants look great and have inspired me to have a stab at growing my own.  I have always kept a pot of coriander on the go and did try a scotch bonnet chili but I bought that when it already had fruit so cheated.

Just wondering what the interest is in growing your own chillies. There seems to be few of you into it.

Do you make your own chilli powder?

Is it to have fresh chillies to add to dishes?

Or is it just an interest in horticulture?

Hi Guys,
Josh you've just about summed it all up there mate, all three, for me anyhow.
Here's my naga jolokias looking lovely, not bad considering they were seeds in mid Feb,
some fruits are about 3 inches long now and must be nearing ripeness.

Yeah Josh, I think it's pretty good banter having chilli plants in my house. When you grow them up from seeds you get attached to them. Total waste of time and money really because for the price of a bottle of tomato food I could buy a great big whack of the things. Just for personal enjoyment.

All the reasons above. Mostly for eating though as I eat chiles in everything.... curry, pasta, stir frys, salads, with nachos/salsa etc.
