BASE SAUCE How many?
« on: October 21, 2007, 06:37 PM »
How many base sauces have you tried from CRO?
I counted wrong. I thought it was 8 I had made a few days ago but now I am up to 9 base sauces.

* How do you think they compare with what you are doing?
* Do you have a favorite?
* What makes you choose a base source to try? Loads of replies, content, What?

I thought this might provide a very interest look into sauces and those who try them
Please vote it took all of 2 minutes to post this poll.  ;D

I just want to add that as stated in previous posts that I didn't go mainstream and headed for things that were easy to do at first. Darth's with the exception of a couple of others, was extensive and needed some serious cooking equipment and that most likely pointed the way I would go at first.

There are now three on my shortlist to try next. I'll get to that later but one thing is becoming increasingly clear to me as I smell my house out, Garlic. Some put it in the base, others fry it and others add it as a puree. The end result is often not far from each other as a result so I think the key here is control.

Since Garlic has a deep aromatic, pungent flavor and aroma I steered away from those using it in base sauce - but for one. I couldn't control what happened in the base if errors were made? Especially in those recipes where water was needed.

======================

So what bases have you tried and what were your reasons for choosing it?
More importantly what were your results and were they consistent?

So 6 people have tried 1 or 2 dishes? We all know that's wrong folks. Come on it only takes a minute or two.  ;D

I see a lot of posts saying Wow, fantastic, great, I'll try it.  ;D
Just wanted to see how many people had and how many they have tried.

Hi again CA. I just want to add that this will be equally important to you too no? If you don't know how well everything is doing how can you improve it? There are still not enough people qualifying recipes that they say they have tried either good or bad.

So you end up trying them at your own risk of course right? Of course if its just a read and go away thing then none of this will matter. Just trying to help as I said to Admin in a unanswered PM yesterday

Best wishes.

Just my 2p I voted but I agree with CA in I don't really know what this will show apart from who has to much time on their hands  :P

The best base poll is flawed as well in the fact that if you have not tried them all how can you say which is the best.

What we need is someone to go through them all and post a write up of each with pictures, if only we can find someone prepared to do it  :P  Although even that leaves it all down to said persons own taste and not really an indicator of one base being better than another.   :-\

Hmmmm ? I thought or think its interesting. I love stats and although only mods will ever know who voted for what it has more substance that a reply saying its wonderful. Just my thoughts of course.

There is an option there to remove vote so its workable. Thing is as I stated some weeks ago. Recipes are everywhere and there is very little order or addition to current ones which further compounds the problem

Is essentially what I have been trying to do in the hope others might do so as well so we can compare results. Frankly I didn't go the BESTEST EVER BASE SOURCE or THE ORIGINAL BASE SOURCE FROM MY MATE IN THE INDIAN because I'm no lemming and have a mind. I hope a bit of common sense too LOL.

At the end of the day it's like everything. You can if you want but you don't have to. The fact a Mod poses a question about this poll when it is a Mods job to make this forum popular tells me a story and I mean no offence by this. If visitors are food to this place then don't bite the hand that feeds you.

12 voters from 3410 members tells its own story. I probably will not offer a view that often either from now on? It seems a fruitless task.
Best wishes Curry King, no offence to you either.

If we can coerce some volunteers who would be willing then why not test out a number of curry sauces and report back.
I hold my hands up that i have not even tried most of the curry base sauces, and there are some i really should try.

If we can get 10 or so members, give a 2 or 3 week timeframe to make a base then test it with 1 pre-chosen recipe the members could report back with a post in a standard format to show pictures, overview, comments and i suppose an overall rating out of 10.

I think this would help other members and show what the same finished curry looks like using a number of different base sauces from the site.
I suppose we could measure it in a number of ways;

level of difficulty to make (1 newbie, 5 expert chef)
does it have 'the taste' (yes/no)
Do you recommend (yes/No)
oil Content (1 none - 5 extreme)
etc

Maybe this could be a way of testing of the recipes...bit of CR0 homework.
Now any volunteers.....

Of course i may be talking poop... :'(
