Hi Mickl,

If you can't find one near you there is always someone like Natco where you can order online, not as cheap but better than your local supermarket.  There is also a discount code if you are a member of this forum:

Still worth comparing prices with other sites though!

You got a choice of 3 I know of in Newport down in Pill (down past police station)
The Continental Shop Abduls (opposite Qwik Save)
Clare's 300 yards further down the road from above
Or
Massala Bazaar (near George Street Furnishers) it's a sort of cash and carry which can be used by general public, well worth checkin out I get my Mutton there and fresh Coriander 2 bunches for ?1 you can't go wrong Plenty of TRS branded Items the best (IMHO)
Hope this helps

Hi Mick,

Welcome to cr0 Mick!

Cassia and Cinnamom are related and taste similar, though Cinnamom is more aromatic and fragrant.  Cassia is often wrongly labelled as Cinnamon by the suppliers, so are you sure that it isn't actually Cassia Bark Mick?  As you probably know, Cinnamom comes as more delicate, light brown, rolled up "quills"; not robust looking pices of flatish, dark brown, "bark".

You can use Cinnamom instead of Cassia in Garam Masala.  Actually, Cinnamom is possibly more commonly used.  However, since Cinnamom is more aromatic, you might want to use less of it.

Having said that, I generally prefer to use Cassia because it's more subtle.  I find that Cinnamom can be a bit pungent and produce a very distinctive, sharp, smell and "edge" (hard to describe!) to dishes.  Cassia appears, to me, to be altogether more "rounded".  Probably not an issue in Garam Masala though.

Regards,

yep quite right Cory
I think Mick was being shown Cassia bark but because it stated Cinnamon on the bag thought it wasn't the right product......Cassia is much better flavour than ordinary Cinnamon

That's it Mick
Next time you see it buy it it'll give your Curry a lovely flavour plus the fact you will need it if your going to make your own Garam massala (highly advisable) leave the ready made Garram Massala where it is on the shelf !
The Cassia Bark you will see it usually in a green colour plastic bag ok ?
hope this helps
