Same Name
« on: January 24, 2007, 11:51 AM »
Having bought all my spices in what I need, I was struggling to find Methi leaves, however looking on my packet of Fenugreek leaves it has Methi written underneath in brackets. Is this the same spice because if it is, it just might be confusing other people aswell.

Sometimes the label says Kasuri or Kasoori.  This is the preferred type of dried Methi leaf, e.g. the rolls royce.

Kasuri, Kasoori and sometimes Kastoori all refer to the same thing - dried methi leaf.

Yes all the same thing.  Kusuri is a regional thing not a brand name.  If you ask an Asian cook they will refer to it because most prefer it

Grabbed from the internet:

Trivia of the day - Qasoor in Pakistan is said to have the finest fenugreek in the world. So dried fenugreek is called "kasoori" (qasoori) methi in tribute.

So now we know!
