Pataks Mixed Pickle in a curry?
« on: March 03, 2015, 06:55 PM »
I put some Pataks Hot Mixed Pickle in a curry (and added some creamed coconut).

It tasted just like a BIR curry that I have had somewhere before. I can't remember exactly but it would have been a Pathia, Ceylon or Naga.

Could it be that a BIR Pathia, Ceylon or Naga might have Pataks Mixed Pickle in it?

My local BIR does Achar Sabji and I think I have only had it once, so it might well have been that. I guess they would have blended the pickle.

Mixed Pickle is served with poppadoms so it would seem logical for some BIRs to also use it in a curry.

My local sticks Patak's Mixed Pickle into a curry and calls it a Balti!

Its a con, of course, but I love the stuff - can't get enough of it! And it's opened the door to whole lot more Indian pickles. Great when you've a teaspoon in your hand when you need something out of the fridge lol!
