WEB-Friendly pictures

Obnviously peeps will use different photo editing packages, but I think most modern ones have an export facility.  EG in PaintShop Pro there is an export facility where you can reduce a picture size, eg Jpeg to about 70 percent and not lose too much image quality.  It would make picture up and down loading so much quicker and take up less space on the server.  IMHO of course  ;D

Hello Snowdog....or is it Yellow Fingers?....I mean CurryGit!  How ya been doin!? ;)

I presume this was in response to my recent photo posts and that CP couldn't see one of the photos?  If so, could you please elaborate a little?

I use "Photo-Brush" and adjust the size of my photos to 800 pixels wide to 400 pixels deep (they are originally over 2000 pixels).  I see that this size no longer quite fits into the frames here (they used to) and scroll bars are therefore generated.  In future I will make them slightly smaller (maybe 700 by 525?).

I also adjust the resolution of my photos to 300kB (they originally start at over 1MB).  The maximum permissable here is 1.5MB.

What do you suggest?  I'm happy to comply with site administration and guidelines (though I have checked with Stew before).  Maybe Stew can recommend some guidelines and post them here?  I think that would be very helpful CG.

I would add, though, that I find it useful to have reasonable resolution to be able to zoom in and see the texture, oil content, etc.....cos I'm a sad git (rather than a curry git!) no doubt!   :P

I think in terms of pixels, rather than percentages, when re-sizing photos for web display or to send via e-mail.

So a picture might start off at over 2000 pixels wide. Regardless of the starting size, though, I reduce it down to about 500 pixels wide for display at a forum like this. The vertical pixels get reduced, automatically by the graphics software I use - PhotoShop.

Good luck

I just use the free windows paint program to resize mine.  If your not sure what they are going to come out like use the test thread to have a look first as you have no preview.

CoryAnder I am neither!  I was not having a poke!  I was just trying to help  ???  I see I have made a mistake when I referred to size.  What I meant was file size not picture size - compression, which are different things I think..  Sorry if I touched a nerve  ;D

No, no CG, I know you weren't having a poke!

It's just I know that Snowdog has also mentioned about photos and sizes and salt before....thought you might be him...that's all  ;)

I know you were being helpful.  You raise a good point!

Cheers,  :)
