Thanks Phil. I'll pinch your Cr0 badge idea if it's OK, so we can all recognize one another?  I have hatched a cunning plan to see if we can get behind the scenes; we'll see.  Actually we might not, but that's the idea anyway.

With great pleasure.  When I'm next in Vietnam (early January 2014) I will see what it would cost to have some CR0 T-shirts made.  I know we could get then printed in this country, but for less than a British company would charge to print them, it might be possible to get them machine-embroidered in Vietnam ...

You know what would be a good idea at these meet-ups?
If everyone brought a teaspoon and a sample of their best homemade curry.  8)

We did indeed agree at the London meeting that each of us should have brought a sample of his BIR cuisine, but the idea was that we would have taken it home to try, thereby obviating the need for a spoon ...

Now you've just destroyed all my illusions, Michael :  after seeing you in that raincoat, I envisaged you as being of an entirely different persuasion :)

Thanks to michael.t and jerrym for attending the Birmingham meet-up last night.  Fantastic to meet you guys!  Hope you both got home safely.  The roads seemed icy when I got up this morning.

More blurb on the day/evening from me later, but the main event was the Adil, accepted by many as the pioneers of the Birmingham balti, and the chefs did not disappoint.  The real-deal balti.  Magical, mysterious, delicate, dancing spices.

Our order consisted of:

Popadoms to accompany the mint and chilli dips

Mixed grill starter, to share. A combination of sheek kebab, chicken tikka, lamb tikka, mini lamb chops, and chicken wings. Served with fried onions. Sizzler.

Balti garlic chilli chicken (Chef's special)

Balti chicken and mushroom

Balti meat

Tandoori table naan

We didn't take any pictures. Too busy eating and chatting. However, I will be popping over to the Adil again today (I left my hat there).  :D  A TA is in order me thinks; Balti meat.

the balti night can't really be wrapped up in words. real bond of friendship. Bob and Michael being star men for me.

the adil did not disappoint. my attempted recipe based on memory is good but a long way off the real thing. the table naan was exactly that.

we toasted absent friend curryhell.

the manager at Bob's local TA is star man too - was calm and friendly even though they were putting through an 80? order. the manager on the counter, 3 cooking and 2 delivering is some set up.

the most important thing was that we all had real good chat about the thing we mutually love - curry.

Michael was too nice in settling the bill for us.

many thanks to Bob for taking the effort to arrange a brill memorable night out.
