as you can (see) admin has already moved a number of threads to their correct sections and it would be good if this could be kept going in real time

I have very occasionally moved a thread which was clearly out of place but, the reason I'm not doing more, is because I'm frequently reminded that I agreed only to delete spam.

I just find it interesting that not all members are delighted with the policy of minimal moderation and, instead, want to see more.

Hi,

I would have thought the extra work such as moving posts to the correct area etc
would need to be done also.

More mods are OK but the freedom of this site is good - very good and its not abused really at all - there are a great bunch of members on here!

Happy Christmas

best, Rich

From my short time on here I would suggest the idea of having more mods is a no brainer.  The obvious people (in no particular order) would be Stephen Lindsay, Curryhell, and Chewy, if they are up for it.  I base this on their proven level pitch on forum posting here, and nothing else.  Just my thoughts, but I submit this to the house.

You are missing the point George.  Forums, by definition, are a community.  A mods job is not limited to deleting spam and offensive posts.  There is a lot more to it.  The people I have mentioned in my earlier post are, in effect, already acting as mods.  For example, when was the last time you (as a senior member) welcomed a new member on board?  That is just one aspect. Its all about team work; multiple roles.  A team of active mods are needed to develop and expand the forum. Also, looking at things objectively, you have made the occasional bonkers post; as you are presently the only mod, it tends to stand out a bit.

In my opinion, unless Admin can show significant interest in the forum, then the forum will not grow (or will, indeed, die).

What are the benefits, to members, of "migrating" to another provider, or "rebranding"?  Why can't Admin state the benefits (to members) of doing so?  How hard is that?

I agree that a number of competent moderators are required.  As getonthegarabi suggests, moderating means much more than just deleting spam or deleting personally insulting comments.  However, moderators also need the full support of the owner/administrator (and that has never been forthcoming).

Also, moderators should not be selected by some sort of "Halo effect", as some seem so often to suggest.  They should be selected against agreed criteria (which I have posted before...I can't be arsed to find it now...but which has been largely ignored).

Admin has recently moved some threads that were posted in the wrong places.  I haven't seen that done for months and months (if not years).  The place is a train wreck (structurally wise).  You can't believe how galling it feels to someone who tried very hard to keep the place ship shape and tidy (for the benefit of the members) and got criticised for doing so.  Then see the structure of the forum turn into a train wreck.  Hell, Admin even posted THIS thread in the wrong place!  :o

The structure needs revamping (to make it easier and more logical for members to use), and it has needed revamping for months and months (if not years).

The forum is not, and should not, be simply about revenue raising (e.g. adverts and sponsorships) though I understand and accept that someone has to pay for the running of the forum.

To be honest, if someone sets up another forum, with an appropriate level of integrity, passion and support, I will also be out of here.  Or, anyway, I will be out of here, irrespectively....("Thank God!", you cry!  ::)).

Anyhow, good luck with the "migration" (whatever benefits that may bring).

My opinion only.

It is not the number of mods that is the issue, it is the quality. A moderator should not be, as is often the case here, a catalyst for argument.  ;)

Quality is never a problem all time there are options.  The number is a severe problem when there is  only one option :-\  The bottom line is here, mods are not meant to be like political party whips, keeping members in line but more like housekeepers, tidying up behind some members who occasionally post in the wrong areas - and we've all done that.  And trying to diffuse any unrest where it may be brewing and providing help and direction when needed.  Equally, forum member's conduct should not be such where they are seen by most other members to be constantly looking for an argument  or adopt a stance which always seems to verge on being confrontational, and at times is unnecessarily rude or offensive.  And before you say anything, this isn't aimed at you George, although you do have your moments ::) but then again, we all do.  But there are limits, and some people need to be reminded of these sometimes, no matter how long they've been here or how much they have contributed in the past.  A cliche, but "nobody is above the law".
My rant over.  I'm sure there'll be follow on comments ::)

Cory, chill out a bit, youve made good contributions to the site in the past and it is all about having fun, sharing and a social network to share a good many things, but i will say curryhell is right what he says.
