may seem like a daft question, but for the spice mix u mentioned, is gara masala suitable? or am i to go buy some more spices...  if so, could u make some suggestions??

I don't think garam masala would work well, I find this one does http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=1546.0. For the curry powder, I use TRS mild madras powder, which can be bought from Indian supermarkets, but I'm sure others have their favourites which work too.

...for the spice mix.....is gara masala suitable?

Hi Stubbie, and welcome to cr0  8)

As Steve says, garam masala is not really a suitable substitute for the Spice Mix (i.e. "curry powder" or "masala").  Garam masala is generally much more aromatic.

The recipe for "Kushi Spice Mix" is here:   http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=1547.0

The recipe for "Bruce Edward's Spice Mix" is here:  http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=1546.0

Otherwise, simply use any decent mild or medium curry powder as a substitute, although the final result will probably be a little different.

and i dont currently have a balti dish, would a wok be alright?

A wok would be perfect Stubbie  :P

Best of luck!  Just shout if you have any further questions....none are too daft to ask!  8)

I've noticed, several times, that posts are difficult to understand because "question marks" replace puntuation and fractioned numbers
So you would have to guess the recipe posted

Yes, your're right Haldi.

Some formatting errors seem to have occured when Stew upgraded the site recently.  Fractions, apostrophes and inverted commas from Word come out as question marks it seems.  It was discussed in this thread here:  http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=1829.0

I've edited recipes that I've posted.  Maybe others can do the same?

It doesn't affect this recipe though....apart from ?meat? should read "meat"  :P
