Mr Lal's (traditional) bhuna chicken

On 10 March 2013, 14:49:11, DalPuri mentioned Mr Lal's bhuna chicken, and later asked whether I had tried it yet, to which I had to respond "no".  Now I have, and (IMHO) it is definitely worth a try, especially when one has no base and some fresh free-range chicken breasts :

• In a moderately tall pan, pre-heat (on high) sufficient oil to cover, to a depth of 2/3, one large red salad onion, cut or chopped into small pieces
• Add the onion and fry, without reducing the heat, for about five minutes or until golden-brown
• Add ¹/₂ dessertspoon garlic & ginger paste and fry for 30 seconds to a minute
• Add 1¹/₂ chef's spoon of tinned chopped tomatoes, including juice
• Add 1 teaspoon salt
• Add ¹/₂ teaspoon turmeric
• Add ¹/₄ teaspoon ground chillies, or more to taste
• Add ¹/₂ teaspoon tandoori masala
• Add ¹/₂ teaspoon garam masala
• Bhoon the spices, then add two free-range chicken breasts cut into curry-sized pieces
• Fry for a couple of minutes, then add 100ml hot water
• Add optional fresh chillies
• Add some kasoori methi and chopped coriander stalks
• Stir well, cover and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring every couple of minutes or so
• Garnish with fresh coriander and serve

Note that the entire procedure is carried out without ever reducing the heat !

Tried this tonight - did it on my BBQ, just for the hell of it. I thought it might have been a bit too much paprika at first but it does cook out, however I always think you need more salt with paprika.  Very tasty though all in all

Where did you find mention of paprika, VT ?  I thought that I transcribed it reasonably accurately, but didn't hear "paprika" on the video soundtrack to the best of my recollection.  But I too added more salt than the recipe called for.
