Lidl cote du rhone is a bargain in France at around 1.40 a bottle (used to be 1.20). The same bottle in the U.K is around the 4/5 pound mark. Stock up if you're on holiday!

Very interesting fried! I often wonder what happened to the cross channel "booze cruise" because it seemed to die out, but if you can save

The same wine is also available in 3l cubis at around 6.50. This is easier to store although a little more expensive. My sister usually visits over the summer and we see how many boxes we can stack around the kids ;D

At Christmas my job is to see how many I can bring back on Eurostar, last year I manage 10, although my back was still in a state in the new year.

Even the normal French supermarkets don't get anywhere near this value for money. And what has happened to the 'booze cruise' ? I haven't heard about anyone going on one for years.

I should also say (just to stay in topic!) that Berberana rioja is excellent at the moment as are many of the current crop of Spanish riojas and tempranillos at around a fiver.
