Is there such a thing as a 'Curry Spoon'

Hello.
Reading 'undercover curry' and keep coming across 'The Curry Spoon.
Anyone got one?.
Are they mainly for the Dipping Technique.
I've looked all over the web and it impossible to find one(not that i'm in that much of a hurry to purchase one).
Is it just a tablespoon with a long handle?
I'm led to believe every Indian chef has one.
What's the deal with this.

Yes wickerman there is indeed such a thing also known as the chef's spoon. To recreate the entire BIR experience not only do you need a good base sauce and the various pastes found here you actually need the chef's spoon clanging on the aluminium pan as you scrape down the sticking sauce as it cooks.

You can get both from any descent Asian food store. You can see examples of both on the various videos here on the site.

You can also cook a good curry with ant pan and wooden spoon if you have all your measured ingredients ready to place in the pan in the correct order, just follow the popular recipes here if you are a beginner. Hope this helps. PP

From experience you probably won't find many searching for 'Chef's Spoon' though.

I think large 'Serving Spoons' are what they mostly are.

Come with different lengths, and styles of handles, and have a bigger capacity (3 tablespoons).

I'll have to compile the recipe and post it in the veggy snacks.
This is the famous Curry Spoon your looking for.
Hand made heavy gauge steel, bashes the hell out of my favourite
Ally pans, makes too much racket and does your wrist in after a few hours
of cooking.
Like Martin says, it equals 3 tbs volume.
If you want to cook authentic, this is the one.
But IMHO.Not really necessary for home cooking.

As Martin says, 'serving spoon' is what you want to search for.

I thought the agreed conversion for a chef's spoon was 4 tbsp (I've never actually compared quantities).

All of my 3 serving spoons hold 50ml of water (poured into measuring jug to check), so I'm only going by that to be honest.

Then I guess we can get into the UK or US tablespoon debate.

UK = 17.76 ml
US = 14.79 ml

Even so mine would all be just under or over 3 tablespoons to a serving spoon.
