Well, I finally made it to Chutney's in Fleet last week. I was staying overnight in Hook prior to a funeral the next day, and my hostess (whom I had taught to cook BIR food the weekend before) suggested we dine out at the newly opened Thai restaurant. I suggested that if we were going to eat out, we might try the Roshney Chicken at Chutney's, which had been so highly recommended, so off we went. It took about 10 minutes to find (!) but as we walked in we had an "argh ... !" moment : it is take-away only. So, in the end, we never got to try the Roshney Chicken, but we have it firmly marked down as a "to be tried" in the future, when we are actually looking for a take-away rather than a sit-down meal.
We ended up in the Nepalese restaurant : Chutney's had kindly recommended "We" if we wanted somewhere to eat in, but the Nepalese restaurant looked smaller and more inviting, and we had a very pleasant meal there. The momo were the best I have ever tasted, the Bhuteko Kalejo (dry-fried chicken liver cooked with tomatoes and dill) rather too dry, the Chaure Khasi (a lamb dish from western Nepal, cooked in herbs and spices and spring onions, served with yoghurt on top) was superb, but the Gurkhali Kukhura (Chicken breast marinated in green chilli, ginger and herbs and cooked over charcoal in a spinach sauce) was something of a disappointment : its bright green colour (around the outside, not through and through) and the fact that it was sliced, were rather off-putting, and overall this one did not live up to my expectations. But the service was friendly and helpful (after I had ordered starters, main courses, side dishes, rice and bread for both of us, the waited turned to Lynn and said "and for the the lady ?" !) and we enjoyed our evening there. Chutney's will sadly have to wait for another occasion.
