Hi all, what a fantastic site - a real curry mecca !

Has anyone got a link for a chefs aluminium pan as uses in takeaway / BIR kitchens?

I haven't and so can't verify if they're any good.

The ?5 price is pretty sharp but the ?7.14 delivery is a bit of a killer, might be worth getting a couple as ?8.50 each isn't too bad.

I bought a couple of pans from Dadibhais (black iron though, not aluminium), and they are fine, though as Spiceyokooko says the postage is a bit steep. Service is good though.

The wooden handled Sonex brand is a common sight in BIR kitchens, and you can pick them up reasonably cheaply if you shop around. Here's one on eBay for

Be careful with orders from dadhibais. They add unreasonable p&p charges to the bill and calculate the vat on top of the carriage costs.

I have 2 sonnex pan (different sizes) which I bought from my local asian super market in Dublin/Ireland, and while I think they are decent pans there is one simple aspect to them that is pretty annoying: balance. The handles are too heavy and pans have flipped numerous times out of the stove, leaving the place full of oil, onion and whatever else was in there. Generally after adding base or a chef spoon the balance seems to be alright, but it can get on your nerves otherwise. One other thing I dislike about them is that the height of the rims are standard. I wanted something steeper/flatter to sort of prevent spillage while mixing in a hurry, but other than that, they are great!

Sorry I don't think that is really fair, they are catering industry suppliers, hence the one off postage including the vat works out pretty cheap if you are buying several items.
They are not really for the general public buying just one pan.

I personally continue to think they are an expensive company to work with and it only gets worse when you live outside UK.

They didn't force you to buy them did they?

Would have cost ?35 within UK, maybe not that cheap for those few bits, but obviously works out cheaper the more you buy.

I've had my share of orders from the UK and Germany and even with package insurance and tracking, this is the biggest rip-off. Also, I didn't say I bought these items -- that is just an invoice, not a receipt. I ordered over the phone and they sent me the invoice 4 days later by email. I didn't proceed with the purchase for obvious reasons.
