I'm just new here and this has maybe been brought up before, but am I the only one who really doesn't like the stuff?

If there is too much of it in a curry, I find it totally overpowers the dish and ruins it.

It must now be over forty years since I read of the Indian gourmet who said to the chef, in exasperation, at a restaurant in which he was dining :  "Like most of our race, I like dhaniya, but is it really necessary for you to add so much to each and every dish that I can taste almost nothing else ?".  Like him, I like coriander, and it can certainly lift an otherwise bland dish, but it does have to be used selectively and with restraint.

Each to their own Garp but I love it and use it sparingly except for Chicken Bangla Garlic which has quite a lot in and I think it tastes great.

Forty years ago, Fresh Coriander was as rare as Hens Teeth in the UK.
Wasn't used and still isn't in most old school BIR dishes, the evolution of its use
is just because of its availability.

What makes me laugh is when peeps add it as a garnish on Kormas and CTM, "stupid"

Anyhoo, I love the stuff and I've just picked some from the garden, the first for 2013

How do you stop the slugs and snails from devouring it ?  They completely denude mine overnight, so I have given up trying to cultivate it.

The Slugs and Snails only go after the young Coriander shoots, once the plants
are established I usually don't have any problems, but they like Beer even more than Coriander
so if you have a problem just lay down a couple of beer traps for them to swim in.

Other garden pests hate Coriander, I boil some Coriander up in tap water, let it cool, strain it,
fill the spray bottle. A natural remedy for aphids, red spider mite and the like.

Interesting use for coriander, CT. My wife uses garlic in exactly the same way for our fruit and veg and it works wonders against the pests. Maybe a good way to use up old unused coriander (not that there's much of that in my house!) - must try it out next time I have some left over.

I disagree. One of my all-time favourite dishes is a recipe by Madhur Jaffrey called 'Lemoney chicken with coriander'. She presented it on BBC TV about 30 years ago and it was, of course in her first book, accompanying the TV series. It uses one or two whole bunches of fresh coriander, and tastes delicious.
