Lets Talk Curry / Re: Tom Puree v Blended Plum Toms

I use puree from tube and add a little water to the pan and mix. I have tried blended plum tomatoes but didn't notice much of a difference. Any time I have left tomatoes in the fridge they have lasted a week max so I would need to freeze. Easier with tube

A pic of this years batch. So easy to grow.

I use leaves for curries and stalks for base. I freeze in batches and use over time

I got this 6litre one about 6 months ago. Very happy with it.  I paid 40 pounds at that time through Littlewoods but cheapest on Amazon now. I use it all the time for garabi, pre cooked meat, other dinners etc

Hi Sverige,

I have had some success growing coriander. The most important thing is to get good seeds. I use Leisure variety.

I soak seeds overnight and sow  1 cm  deep in a large pot (8 inch deep if possible) of wet compost/potting soil. I place these outdoors on a window ledge or alternatively indoors. I place these on the window ledge to avoid slugs. They would have to climb 1m of pebbledash to get to them  ;D .The pot is generally filled up to an inch below the top. This allows you to add more compost as the seedlings grow. They are generally long and spindly and so can fall over otherwise.

The seedlings should appear after about 7-10 days. They may appear side by side in pairs as each seed is actually 2 seeds in 1. Thin these pairs out as they are too close together. Fill with compost up to the top to give them more support. Water gently if it is not raining regularly being careful not to disturb the roots. Do not transplant as they have delicate roots. Make sure that they are not sitting in water on a saucer etc. I water indoor plants every day or 2 but raise them up on the saucer so the water can drain. They do not like too much sunshine. They may bolt and go to seed due to lack of water, too much sunshine or seed variety.

I'm trying to grow a large coriander plant from 1 seed and also a pot of seeds at the moment - see pics attached.

I struggled with mushy rice too until I found this method. It works well every time on our induction hob. I would say it would work no matter what rice you use. We use ALDI rice.

Wash rice (Say 1 full cup) in large pot. Change water a couple of times.
Soak in water for 20 mins
Drain and pour in boiling water 1.5 times the quantity of rice ie 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cup of boiling water
Put on hot ring to bring to the boil quickly
Once boiled turn down very low and put the lid on
Cook for 6 minutes with lid on. The water should have been absorbed by then
Remove lid and wait til most of the steam has dissipated
Stir the rice and leave to stand for 5 minutes.
Stir the rice again and leave until all the steam dissipates, this takes a further 5 minutes
Then put the lid on until you are ready to use it

You can change the quantity of rice but just make sure to keep the ratio of rice to water at 1:1.5

Hi guys,

This looks like a great forum. Have tried Blades chicken tikka - very impressed. Looking forward to trying out some more recipies.

I have been cooking curries for about a year now but still plenty more to learn.

I like the fact that this forum has a Chinese/Thai section too as I like to try these out from time to time.
