Lets Talk Curry / Best Indian York City Centre
« on: August 14, 2014, 08:17 PM »
Hi all

Going to be in York on Saturday night.  Can anyone recommend a good Indian restaraunt in the city centre?

Been to The Kings Ransom and Taj Mahal (by river), both good.  Also noticed there looks like a new one on Micklegate.

Just wondered if we're missing a hidden 'gem'.

Thanks!  Rich.

Hi Guys, thanks alot!  Adds some more money to my initial budget but, what the hell, if it does the job.

Will check'em out.

Making my own take on tandoori butter chicken tonight (with Quorn) so may post something if it's any good.

Cheers, Ricky TT

Hi all

Gone and bought a korai without remembering that I've got a conventional gas cooker with four rings.  Consequently my korai does'nt sit directly over the heat, one side of the pot is clearly hotter than the other.

Is there an attachment you can get or is it a fact of life that people in India use different cookers?

Do most folks just manage?

Would I be better off using something with a flat bottom?

Thanks!  Rich  :)

There used to be one on Micklegate that I used to go in as a PGCE student, I think it's shut now but it was good.  They used to do a lot of Afghan dishes (tuna bacchau or something, very nice).

I once saw a girl flash her boobs in there  :o  (really!) which was a bonus.... ;)

The Japaui Spice on Haxby road not far from the city centre seems to get a good write up, not that I've been.

Is that the one on the way to Haxby? coming from North, I may have seen it, big white building.

Definitely worth checking out.

No, but I've got their pie one, and it's good.

Yeah, I fancy the 'Baking' one.

Hi all

Does anyone remember that Indian on Micklegate in York?  I can't think of its name, or how about Spice 21?

Been to The King's Ransom and Taj Mahal (closed I think now).

There's another one, same part of town near the Lowther pub, it's called Kasmiri something.  Has anyone been, will be going to York soon for a night out and will probably want to check it out.

Rick.

I'm in, Sabzi Rogan Josh please!

I've been out on curry mile about 25 years ago (18 at the time).  Got one of the hottest possible at the 'Shezan' is it still there?

Asked before to see in the kitchen, not usually met with open arms....... ???

Hi, I'm not sure I should mention names on here but I have a book by the two TV chefs that could do with a shave....

I've tried the Channa, South Indian Prawns, Crunchy Palak Paneer and they are excellent!!

I go out for a 'proper' curry every few weeks to the same place and compared them, I think I'm getting quite close with my own at home sometimes.

Anyone got any thoughts on these or on the other guy that normally cooks fish.

Thanks! Rick (no, not that one).
