Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been out of town.

Thank you for all your responses.  976bar, I'm in Taiwan. My impression is that dairy products, other than cheese and milk, are not widely available here.  I don't remember seeing yogurt in local grocery stores.

Abdulmohed2002, thank you for the offer for more information. I'll do some more searching locally to see if I can find yogurt. It might be available in traditional markets.

Thank you 976bar and Chewytikka for your responses and links. I can see now that yogurt is an important ingredient when a recipe calls for it. I checked-out the link to Easiyo and also watched the video on making yogurt.

I will continue to look for yogurt here or follow-up on one of your suggestions. Thanks again. Perry

Lets Talk Curry / Could coconut milk substitute for yogurt?

I'm new to the forum. In reading recipes for curry, I sometimes find yogurt listed as an ingredient. Yogurt is not that easy to find where I live. I was wondering if coconut milk would work as a substitute. If not, what might work?

Thanks in advance, Perry

Hello. My name is Perry. I'm an American who lives most of the year in Taiwan. I teach in a private university.

I was first introduced to curry in the early 1960s when my father (and the family followed him) was sent to England on a tour of duty.

I would first like to learn how to cook a few simple curries before trying anything more difficult. I'm not sure how successful I will be finding some of the ingredients for curry in Taiwan.

If you can point me in the right direction to finding easy recipes I'd appreciate it very much. I may also need help finding substitutes for some ingredients.

By the way, "An" is my Chinese name. Some foreigners in Taiwan need a Chinese name for salary purposes.

Good to be here, Perry
