Fishy! You lie, but at least you're not arguing, like most other folk on this once good forum.

Wow, five feet! What size pots are they in? Yes about half is what we took off, they did not look pretty over the winter! Good luck :)

Grow Your Own Spices and Herbs / Re: Chilli growing time!

I have about 2 dozen chilli plants including cayenne, trinidad scorpion and jalapeno and as this is my first year growing I want to overwinter but not sure what I need to do this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Attached is a photo of some of them trying to grow during our short summer.

Hi! We had a 100 per cent success rate with Dorset Nagas and Prairie Fire plants this year, simply bought inside, watered less, cut back, similar to a rose bush to increase growth. The best crop of nagas ever this year! Also the chillies seemed hotter, and they flowered and fruited much earlier, this summers sunshine certainly helped too! On an earlier page in this thread 'Fishy' posted some photos.

I suggest trying to overwinter your chillies, what have you got to lose? :)

Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / Re: So where are all the ladies

Hello curry lovers!
I am still here. Although I have had only a marginal success in creating the TA taste. In fact my boyfriend and I regularly go to the local curry house. We do try to cook at home but usually he is disappointed and says his curry is bland. One thing that has been brilliant is a recipe that appeared at Xmas time for curry puffs. My boyfriend regularly cooks these, they're easy, tasty and make a good meal. We did discover that the ingredients in the Jus-Rol ready made pastry were a bit alarming so yesterday I made puff pastry from scratch. Good result.
I will always adore eating curry.
All the best, Colette. :)

Pictures of Your Curries / French Curry? Plus an experiment!
« on: July 25, 2012, 10:16 PM »
Curry? On a menu in the South of France? Moule Curry et Frites? Oh yes please! I never imagined to find curry on a menu during a recent trip to the Continent, I simply had to order it, unsurprisingly it was not BIR, maybe FIR, I shall leave you to make your own acronym!

The mussels were fantastic, fresh, huge and cooked perfectly. The curry, well as you may see from the picture, a considerable amount of cream with some coconut; not too much though.

Perhaps you are thinking this isn

Wikipedia:
"Bass is a name shared by many different species of popular gamefish. The term encompasses both freshwater and marine species."

Hi Stonecut!

Thanks for that :) I feel slightly less dumb  ::)

I also found on Wiki, that in the UK, it's marine. North America have both.

Cheers :)

The only bass in this country comes from the sea, a bass is a bass.  :)

Ha ha ha!!! That's my knowledge of fish, a big fat nil! :)

I tried a Mongolian Fish Curry, somewhere in Bristol, put me right off. Prawns IMHO are ok, give me chicken any day!

So what was the bass curry like? Would you cook it?

Cheers, Colette. :)

Sorry for the late report but here is what I thought.

Very expensive and small portions although it was nice but not amazing. I had a seek kebab starter followed by a Syrian beef curry which were 6.95 and 13.95 and it didn't really touch the sides. That was along with a chilli & coriander nan bread and bits of other peoples who I was with.

I won't be going back that's for sure but I had to try it although I'll try Rubys next time.

Be careul if you're driving and order a king Cobra as it's 750ml and is 8% which would probably put you over the limit. My dad who was driving had one and didn't realise it was 8% until I pointed it out.

Amongst the other things I tried was a bit of the bass curry and tandoori chicken which were both nice but not amazing again.

I prefer good old BIR curry and not all this contemporary stuff but it was busy on a Tuesday night so each to their own.

Cheers.

Hi Hcool!

Thank you for your thoughts on Mint & Mustard! Seems very, very expensive, for Taunton anyway! Sounds like there wasn't enough food too! At least they sell decent beer!

The Bass Curry? Do you mean Sea Bass?

Do try Ruby's their curries are great!

Cheers :)
