Trainee Chefs / Beginners Questions / Re: Substitute for gram flour?
« on: May 27, 2007, 01:29 PM »
Well I gave it a go last night. After nearly burning out two hand blenders (I swapped back and forth as the one in use started to smoke, lucky we've got two!), I ended up with about 100 grams of flour. I mixed it with normal flour (about 3-1) and got a reasonable result though.
I'll have to try another method next time. Perhaps a coffee grinder as you suggested.

Excellent post! I'll be giving that a go next time.
Up till now, I've been following the instructions on the packet, and always seem to end up with a sticky mess, which tastes fine but looks terrible.
Cheers

Trainee Chefs / Beginners Questions / What can I use instead of gram flour?
« on: May 26, 2007, 10:54 AM »
Hi guys,
Living in Denmark as I do, I find it difficult to find all the necessary ingredients for some of the recipes on here. This is a bit annoying as I'd really like to give some of them a go.
Today's problem is that I can't get hold of gram flour. I've been to every 'ethnic' store within 10 miles and can't find any. Which kind of flour(if any) can I use instead (I'm trying to make pakora)?
Cheers

Hi and thanks for the welcome Spicysarsy,
I'm looking forward to giving all the recipes on here a go.
I live in Denmark, and can't get a decent curry anywhere, so this site is a Godsend.

According to Flash Earth it's on Lochlibo Road or the A736.
It's been a while since I've lived the area so my geography is a bit rusty, but I don't think it's the same one.
It's called the New Krishna Tandoori. I was there last year, and thought it was very good, but I wondered what you curry connoisseurs thought about it.

Hi there guys,
Since we're talking about curries in Ayrshire, has anyone here tried the Indian at the Torranyard on the Barrhead road?
