I've just watched this.
Quite an interesting looking dish.
The comments are also quite revealing.

An interesting looking dish. The comments are more interesting though.  Other than a few posts or should i say comments (very few in fact) and coming on here to peddle his e-book i can't remember Julian contributing to this site or is my memory failing me???

"Thanks Mick for? that glad you are enjoying the videos.
I know what you mean about those forums, I don't bother with them."

As for not bothering with them, funnily enough he logs on quite regularly, this very morning in fact ::)

I enjoyed the video
I love watching these chefs weave their magic

It's truly amazing that videos like this are now available to watch
When CR0 first started there was nothing but our badly documented demos
In one of my first reports, I remember being amazed at a gas ring having two concentric circles of heat
How green I was

Thank you so much to Curry Barking Mad, for all his video work
You can watch these videos again and again, noticing new things each time
and of course thanks to Julian
This video is a cracker
I notice the "seasoned" oil is used again
How much it effects things is controversial, but you just can't get away from that one, can you?

I make this with whipping cream - ie we cant get single here - its great for a change when you want a creamy flavoured curry and you can make it a little more spicy if required i even put in chopped green chillies nice if you like!

The comments urrrrm! he don't bother with the forum at all - but checks to see what the response is on the site - i know some who do that on other sites its a way to keep informed of what is happening - however it would be good to make a contribution now and then - might not feel he has to.......
As far as forums go there are many members who make comments about others work but NEVER post any recipes or pictures of their own - amazing that!!

As far as the video goes it is a good one and has the right edited ingredients on which is a help. As Julian says he has begged his recipes and tips etc from the chef in the video - its always good to learn from someone who knows!

best, Rich

Thanks Julian for another great video!
Keep them coming! I have learnt so much from your videos.
I used to use both the RCR and CRO sites, but I don't use them anymore,
because those forums have become like a kids playground
with a handful of Bullies that think they no it all! Notice you don't
post on there anymore?

Balti  Pataks paste in the curry
I know we use them in marinades
Does any one else use them straight in to a curry wth success

Does anyone know who Mickleback72 might be?

I can't relate to his criticisms at all. Even if I include people who I've had differences of opinion with in the past, I wouldn't say there are any "know it all's" here so I strongly disagree with Mickleback72. By jumping in to sort of agree with him, I fear Julian risks falling out with a large part of his potential market, i.e. hundreds of active members of this forum and the other forum mentioned.

Julians efforts (books and videos) are potentially good but only if they produce breakthroughs or in any way raise the bar of recipes on here, previously. I somehow doubt that. It may be more like the reverse, where recipes from this site, helped Julian get his take-away started. Has anyone actually tasted any of the curry2go output yet? If it's deemed to be more tasty than most BIRs, I might sit up and take more notice. The second question would then be whether the recipes produce equally tasty results at home. Worst case is that it's just a money making venture, largely repeating what everyone already knows.

fascinating video.

going to have to make this.

i'm not sold on the low oil but who cares - splitting hairs.

it does answer for me the question of heat on cream dishes (my own preference). some do benefit some don't.

looks a real good spot too - will keep in mind if tripping to blackpool

Yes I know two places
It's really popular going into many curries other than Balti
You get a background aroma /taste from it
It subtley brilliant
I manage to buy it in a small jar

There was also another couple of comments removed as well, Look's as if Julian is only leaving the comments that praise him or his cooking, afraid of a little criticism i think

Funny how certain comments have mysteriously disappeared ::)

I didn't know it was possible to remove comments on youtube but perhaps Julian is trying to calm things down, which must be good. As I said, I simply don't know if his cooking or recipes are anything special but, even if they are only 'average' he's probably provided more information in a few months than Pat Chapman and Kris Dhillon did over several decades. I simply can't understand why anyone here should seek to criticise him for not contributing 'even more' to this forum. He doesn't owe us anything. Even if Julian had simply popped in to let us know about the videos and eBook, I'd have thought it was in our interest. As it is, the rude comments are likely to put him off, plus any other budding authors. To say he's 'two faced' or anything similar is so rude and out of order, in my opinion.

The video which kicked off this thread is potentially up there with the best, so why is Julian being criticised rather than praised?

One thing he states in one of his vids is that nowdays he often leaves the running of C2Go to his staff as he is very busy, so there is no guarantee that he would be there even if you turned up.

Obviously he states that this has no relevance on the quality of the dishes served up and I should imagine he keeps check on the standards.

Thanks George for that-  it's much appreciated!

Just to set the record straight here;

YES I did agree with another forum member about how critical some on this forum are and YES I did say (for that very reason I don't bother with the forums anymore) my reason??

I have been accussed by a member of this forum of "stealing recipes..." which I then added to my book, which is complete and utter NONSENSE!!

I have also been accussed of "operating a money making scam..." by a few so called "Curry Gods" on this forum .

THIS is why I don't bother anymore with this forum. It is one thing to criticise a person's recipes (no harm in that in fact isn't that what forums are all about?)  but it is another thing altogether to accuse some one of "stealing " and "operating a money making scam" on a public forum- both of which stray into the realm of libel!  Anything that damages a persons reputation and good name is NO laughing matter and quite honestly has annoyed me!

Curry is not just a hobby to me - but how I make my living and because of certain people on this forum making nasty remarks, this could affect my business, particularly when they are not content to confine their 'rants' to this forum but they also start posting nasty comments on my Youtube channel!   Thank God there are more positive decent people out there than nasty ones on this forum or we would all be knackered.

While I am at it, I did not use this forum or the other one " Just to promote my Ebook.."  firstly I was invited to come onto this forum by someone who had seen my videos on Youtube and thought it might benefit others if I got involved- which I happily did. I also posted recipes, tips, and revealed ingredients to my Base Gravy NOT covered in the first Base Gravy Youtube video. (secrets I was saving for my book!)  I was also happy for all my videos to be posted on this forum. I answered TONS of emails and questions from forum members (I still do!!)  and all of that before I even mentioned my Ebook,  so some people on this forum need to get their facts straight before saying I contributed nothing!

I am not stupid I know how things work, some people feel threatened when someone knew comes along and suddenly takes the limelight for a moment, so because they don't like to share, they have to create lies and stories to not only rubbish what the guy does, but turn everyone against him. Does anybody know what I am talking about?

What a flipping shame! Because this forum could get better and better and end up having more knowledge about the food we all love (BIR) than many 'Indian' restaurants but as many have been put off by the "Bullying" that goes on here!

I have had a LOT of forum members email me about how they don't post here anymore because they see what goes on and they don't like it.

Some may not like what I have had to say tonight, but I felt I had to set the record straight.

Regardless of my (so far mediocre) experiences with your recipes I must say that this was very well said Julian !!!

I enjoyed every page of your book, it was very interesting. Too bad that the resultant curries were not really my kinda thing (I only tried 4 recipes so far, though). I also see you spilled some of the beans from your book exclusively on this forum before the book was even out so I don't get what the fuss is about (except for the latest book, but I won't comment on that).

So let me ask you this: Which recipe in your BIR book do YOU (personally) like the most ? I'd like to try that one and see if I like it. As you know, people's tastes are different all around the world and we might just not be compatible (palate-wise). Again, there's lots of good info in your book (AND in your videos). It'd be a shame if you didn't come here just because some people have a bad temper sometimes (I must say, I'm not exactly the most controlled person myself but most brits appear to have an anger problem, you too?). Hater's gonna hate and all that.

My suggestion is to post one or two recipes from your book(s) including the extra info here directly. People will have a chance to try them out and get a better feel for your book(s). I think some might change their mind about you, others won't but that's life.

BTW: I personally enjoyed the last chapter in your book the most (since most BIR "secrets" were already known to me because of this forum). I just wish the chapter had been a bit longer ;)

Hi Les,

Someone on here was going to try one (not 100% sure, but I think it was Razor) But never heard anything else about it

Yeah, it was me and I did pay C2G a visit back in Jubilee week, but sadly, it was shut.  I went on a Wednesday afternoon and it appears all the market huts are shut then.

I should have come back on and told people really but a felt a bit of a tit to be honest, as I'm quite sure that Julian had already told us that they don't open on a Wednesday :(

Can't be arsed with arguing. I'm here to cook curry.

So, it's Friday tea time in OZ. I've just cooked a Lamb jalfrezi, a chicken Vindaloo, Chewys pillau rice....... and this recipe too. We all know the Jalfrezi (Chewy) and vindaloo (CA) are excellent, and Chewys pillau rice is also great.

I cooked the mogul for the kids as a substitute to their normal Korma.  WOW it was beautiful. The only difference to the recipe was that i added a tbsp of sugar and a tsp or so of onion sauce. Very, very nice curry. The kids didn't get too much of it.  :D

Thanks for the vid Julian. 8)

Thanks 'Stonecut'

My favourite recipe is Vindaloo.

The way I cook at home is generally not BIR style, however,  if I take a curry home from work- it's invariably a Vindaloo!  When you are cooking BIR style curries day in day out they tend to loose their appeal (might be just my curries!) when I eat out I tend to go for vegetarian Indian or Pakistani style.

I have been to C2G on 3 occasions now and sadly been shut on all my visits too  :(, once was in the Easter holidays and as per Razor's experience, the whole market was shut, on my next visit (if open hehe), I'd like to buy a cooked curry and maybe purchase some base sauce separately to compare against mine at home and to see if it can be recreated on home hob!

For me Julian's comments were well said!!

Yep - well said Julian.

Keep up the great work with the videos, and ignore the idiots.

No matter what forum you enter you'll come across people with an axe to grind, regardless of subject matter. But thankfully the idiots tend to be in a minority. I'd say 99.9% of folk on this forum are here for the same thing, namely the sharing of knowledge - plus a bit of friendly banter, of course!

I was about to add last night that you was actually invited to this forum as well as others and you obliged us with a visit Julian.
I thought Id best let it drop as this thing could end up as silly as drawing divisions here.

I for one totally enjoy your advice and vids and books etc and that's not taking it away from anybody else on here, they all have something to offer.
Although I understand that some people have put years of research and effort into this cuisine and can be very protective of their knowledge and to be shown credit where credits due I think they should chill out.

I can see no ulterior motives of why you drop in now and again.
I'll say it once again, you didn't have to drop by, you was invited!

Just a note, if any Aussies are going to try this. I couldn't find any balti paste at any spice shops, so instead I added about half a tsp of Ahmed kebab paste.

Any suggestions of whether any other paste would suit better would be welcomed. But as I said, it was a gorgeous curry anyway. 8)

According to the captions it's a spoonful of base gravy, just to keep the pan temperature under control.

The chef doesn't appear to go near the base gravy which is nearly in front of him he goes left where all the powders are and the garlic. Its very minimal like a powder and then the chef is scrapping it around with the contents of the pan - it looks dry - as in powder. I wondered if it was tomato paste  the spoon looks to have a redish tinge.
