Here we go after some considerable headaches, arguments and research this what we came up, main design of the kitchen is to make cooking my curries easier.

Hob
Electrolux 6 Burner Stainless Steel
Oven
Electrolux Double Oven Black
Cooker Hood
Britannia Hood Stainless Steel
Oven housing to the left is a pull-out larder to store all my spices.
Under the hob is a two pan drawer with a hidden cutlery draw and by the fridge another two pan drawer.
The cupboard to the far left of the hob will have a Le Mans Corner Unit Storage.
The colour of kitchen units are Boston White and Black.
The door to the left of the oven housing is like an under the stairs larder with shelves to store tinned stuff etc.
The other door the left of that leads into my darts room and social gatherings.
-
Nice one UF let us know how it works out for you in practice!
-
Will do.
Got a lot of work to do though first so looks like getting my hands dirty and knocking the curry cooking on the head for a few weeks.
-
Double ovens up in the air good choice no more bendind down
-
May I just add that darts and social gatherings are right up my street mate..! Along with a good curry of course.
Good luck on your venture, I only wish Id been a bit more sensible in life to of had the opportunity to design my perfect kitchen myself.
Tower Hamlets council are not exactly known for their extravagance.
Good on you mate, hope all goes well. :)
-
Do you know of what material the cupboard doors will be made, Unclefrank, and whether they will be foil- or vinyl covered ? If so, there may be problems with the foil or vinyl deforming in the regions in close proximity to the ovens. Solid hardwood would be better from this perspective, or any other uncoated heat-resistant material (e.g., Corian).

Hi UF - looks great. I recently had the opportunity to remodel my kitchen, and it feels great.
One thing I'd mention - as a diehard curry cook - is don't skimp out on the hob. I don't know the specs of the Electrolux you are planning, but I'd get as close to restaurant grade as you can, especially since you're buying anyway. I spent more than I should have on mine, and I don't regret it a single second!
Good luck with the renovation!

Looks great UF , perfect working triangle between sink , hob and fridge/freezer and the fantastic eye level ovens .. how I wish I'd done that ... usually every Christmas .. getting a 15kg turkey out of an under worktop oven is a pain in the arse !!. I agree with the comment to not skimp on the oven/hob arrangement since cooking is what you're doing all this for.
Good luck with the project and please post pics as you go so we can monitor your progress :) ;)
-
The door to the left of the oven housing is like an under the stairs larder with shelves to store tinned stuff etc.
Perhaps the larder gives you enough storage space, but if it was me, I'd include wall units in the kitchen, as well, i.e. either side of the cooker hood. I think your design looks a bit 'empty' at present but I know it's so subjective. You'd probably think my kitchen is too cluttered.
Someone gave me a load of tiles a bit like your illustration but I'm not going to use them. The modern look seems to be without tiles, such as using glass splash backs instead, or just a plain wall.
You could also cover up the washing machine, with a dummy cupboard door, but only if you can increase the worktop depth, or buy a new (integrated) washing machine.

This is the hob http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/EHG9832X-Electrolux-Insight-Gas-Hob-Stainless-Steel-11642.aspx (http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/EHG9832X-Electrolux-Insight-Gas-Hob-Stainless-Steel-11642.aspx)
And here's the oven http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/EOD67043K-Electrolux-Electric-Double-Oven-Black-16650.aspx (http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/EOD67043K-Electrolux-Electric-Double-Oven-Black-16650.aspx)
Wednesday nights is mainly eating curry, darts, drinking and putting the world to rights.
Weekends is really who and how many people turn up.
I do cook a lot of curries so with the reviews of the above items i felt sure i was choosing the right appliances, but any recommendations would help me a lot.
The prices for the two appliances is not what i can get them for, so i get a bargain and free delivery from another shop.
Forgot to add the tiles in picture aren't what we decided on, going for black sparkle, the other half's choice, with a stainless steel splashback.
Any suggestions please feel free to add.
Thanks.
-
A quick thought UF .. what about a built in gas fired tandoor .. you'll be the envy of the forum ;)
-
I have been looking into that but the other half says NO.
Any thoughts on the hob i have chosen?
-
I'd be very happy with that hob ... it looks far superior than mine but in my defence I'd not discovered cr0 when I did my kitchen .. things would be very different now !! :)
-
Cheers.
I done a lot of researching and checking websites for reviews then decided on the above appliances.
I then written down how i cook my curries from start to finish, making 3-4 different bases at one time, then that's how we came up with the design of the kitchen. Minimalistic no clutter, it will all be placed in the relevant drawers.
Got quite a lot of space in the kitchen so all should work out fine, i hope.

Hi UF
You seem to be a prolific curry cook and by the amount you cook, I think you should include a spice deck under your planned cooker hood.
A small spice deck, really will improve the rhythm of your cooking, especially at the Tarka stage of dishes.
Back in the Nineties I designed my curry kitchen, but i went with made to measure Stainless Steel.
Bench Grade Stainless worktops, with an 8inch splashback built in. So I have a 16 foot worktop area,
which I can clean down in a couple of minutes and to be honest it looks as good now as it did when it was fitted.
cheers Chewy

-
Oooh ... I'm loving those stainless worktops ... that's BIR style :)
Nice one Chewy !
-
Thought about stainless steel worktops but i have just over 22 ft of worktop and didn't really want it to look too much like a working kitchen plus the cost as well, if you know what i mean, it is our domestic kitchen as well.
Going to use 30cm high black sparkle tiles to go the whole length of the worktops with a black trim at the bottom of the tiles, so it's easier for me to clean and then a chrome trim on top of the tiles to break up the darkness of the tiles, hope that makes that sense.
Any pictures of the spice deck thing CT.

Hi UF
Sorry, haven't got a photo as I'm not using that kitchen at the moment. :'(
The Gastronorm spice deck may not be good for you, as they are a bit industrial and even
the smallest ones 1/9 - half ltr, take some filling with spices.
Here's a link to a pic of Mick CBM spice deck, to get the idea
http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=8196.msg72511#msg72511 (http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=8196.msg72511#msg72511)
I'm updating my dad's kitchen at the moment and
I've just bought a glass shelf (bathroom style) which is very neat with stylish fixings and I'll just use ramekins for the spices
I'll post a pic of that one when it's up ;)
cheers Chewy

Cheers CT.
UB now thats a nicely designed kitchen ;)
If anybody else has any ideas or tips please feel free.

Cheers.

Without seeing the whole picture it's hard to imagine.... stainless steel surround and sinking in a deep fat fryer?

Why not change that fridge freezer into 2 separate built in units underneath a worktop and have a nice prep area above? A few nice down lighters, the food directly underneath you and a lovely prep area above? :)
You'd probably even get a nice storage cupboard or 2 above, with built in down lighters to keep all your spices in ready for that prep area!! :)
-
That partition wall running down the side of the fridge freezer does not look like a supporting wall, so why not knock it down as far as the back of the existing fridge freezer, and then go with the above?
-
Nothing like a bit of DIY when it's WIP ;). Will be well worth it in the end although it may just disrupt the curry cooking for a bit unless the weather turns for the better and you can do it outside ::).

976bar i have a chest freezer in another room so the one in the picture is for normal cooking, really wanted the space under the stairs for tinned stuff etc.
Think i might get one of these http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7001040/Trail/searchtext%3E5+TIER.htm (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7001040/Trail/searchtext%3E5+TIER.htm)

Thanks for the comments, any more ideas please feel free.

I'm still thinking in this case, just a built in fridge underneath, plus a built in cupboard underneath for all the tins, a worktop for prepping and some cupboards above for more tins :)
For me personally, you are going to have such a wonderful looking kitchen, do you really want to be seeing all those tins on display? plus you get a wonderful food prep area which leaves the rest of the kitchen free :)
-
could be some space where you put your bin with shelving above may be
-
The shelving wouldn't be seen because the shelving would sit back into the space on the left of the picture, also i have a lot of space to prep food, second picture, has for the built in fridge freezer really don't need another freezer already have three and two fridges so the fridge in the alcove would be for beer and stuff and my chest freezer in another room for my curries and the big American style fridge freezer i the one on display, so to speak.
Still keep ideas coming though, thanks.
Michael.t that is a good idea i will certainly keep that in mind. Cheers

Beautiful Kitchen and Nice Design ,Well done!. :)
Sam - why did you repeat the entire post, complete with the image everyone has seen before, just to add a few fine words of your own? It's inelegant and, to be honest, lazy, not to trim a quote to the minimum. Why clutter the forum with so much duplication?

Well on your way Frank ;)
Are you having curry cooking withdrawals or are you managing to do a bit.
You inspired me into a little refurb myself.
I decided renew a sink surround/worktop and tiles, all went well until I bought the new tiles and thought to myself,
I won't buy any adhesive as there's a big tub somewhere in the shed.
O.K. Ripped all the old tiles off, patch plastered the walls, next day, prep and did the tiling, great I really enjoy tiling.
Next day, what a bummer, half the tiles were lying about and the rest just came away with a touch.
Lesson learnt, use fresh adhesive every time!
Still I enjoyed tiling the whole thing again and I thought I was making Chapatti for a minute, when I was mixing the grout. LoL. ;D
Looking around Kitchen places for two new large spice cabinets to finish the refurb.
Keep us posted on your progress Frank
cheers Chewy

I just cant wait to get back to cooking curries its been 5 or 6 weeks now, keep watching videos from here.
Got quite a few friends in the building trade, used be one of my many jobs, so they got me most of the adhesive, plaster etc, my tiles are going to be put on by kitchen fitter,
Got to level the floor Saturday morning and prime the walls (two coats) and ceiling (three coats) then that's it for a bit, going to let everything have a good couple of days drying, with help from an air purifier.
Appliances are being delivered tomorrow (Friday) so got to find room for those.
Then the kitchen being delivered on the 21st July (Saturday), then fitted on the week commencing 23rd July.
With your spice cabinets have you got a picture where they will go, have got a few pictures saved on my laptop so some of them might be just what you are looking for. What size would the cabinets be?
-
Hi Frank
Just looking at normal wall cabinets H720xD290xW500 to fit either side of the window and then adapting them for spices.
I don't want anything showing as this is just handy storage and I like the mixed spice aroma when you open the doors.
cheers Chewy
-
Yeah same here with the spice smell when you open the door, was just having a tea break and found this

Good to see that it is now taking shape UF. Bet you'll be glad when it's all done :D

very stylish at least your past the messy stage not long now ;)

I can't wait until the kitchen is finished, i have enjoyed it though, got no means of cooking plus had our boiler serviced and the bloke said the C02 is to low so now we have no hot water for over the weekend.
Can't complain really.
One thing i have to say is that microwaved meals, curries, sunday dinner type things are just not very nice, that's putting it nicely, never tasted so much bland food in my life.
Really looking forward to cooking my first curry.

Here's a top tip for you frank - Asda lamb shank in gravy. Comes in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box, you just pierce the bag, throw it in the microwave for 8mins and you've a lovely tender falling off the bone lamb shank. Best microwave food I've ever found. Of course it really needs roast pots to go with it but at a pinch you could make some mash using the microwave I suppose.

Cheers for that natterjak will try them.

The other thing you could think about as a stop gap if your kitchen is out of commission is a halogen oven. Little table top glass bowl thing with a halogen element built into the lid. You can get them for
