Thanks guys,I can't wait to use it,the neighbours will probably think I'm having a mid-Winter Barbecue!!! Have to say there's not many dedicated BIR Tandoori books out there, guess I'll have to have a re-look on the forum.I was pretty satisfied with my tikka/tandoori cooking already so hopefully now I can really step it up.

I cooked some tikka and naans in my tandoor yesterday
Then I used my "sizzler" to finish it off
I overdid the onions but the general effect and aroma was excellent
I had to season the sizzler before use
I burnt oil onto it (same as you do for a wok)
I can't attach a picture folks, sorry
The server keeps giving a "full" error
But the cast iron is black, the tikka is orange, the pepper is green and the onion transluscent with a bit too much black!!

It doesn't do anything for the taste, but the aroma really gets those dinners' juices going and for presentation it cannot be beaten. Tikka starters or sheek / shami kebabs just don't seem right unless presented on a sizzler :D Glad you're enjoying it Haldi. I'm still envious of jb though >:( Haven't heard a word since the tandoor was announced. Look forward to some feedback soon ;D

I actually unpacked it today,Xmas has been very busy and I haven't been at at home much.It was very well packed indeed,a wooden crate on a pallet which weighed an absolute ton!! Eventually I cut through the metal banding wire surrounding the case and there it was...my own shiny tandoori oven!!! Complete with a naan bread cushion which still makes me laugh for some reason!! I think I've really bored everyone to death now who comes round talking about it!!! I can't wait to try it;don't worry guys reports(and pics)will be posted.

Yeah, c'mon jb. You may be in possession of the Tandoor but surely you must realise that it now belongs to cr0 and it's good members, and you have it for conducting all our experimental needs? ;D

I am looking at getting one of these. Have been searching internet for suppliers.
I think I am going to hold fire until you can give an update on the oven.
-
Yeah me too, looking forward to hearing how it goes but it sounds great.
I'll probably wait until March to get one if they're any good.
-
Haha... Knowing that I am curry crazy the missus & kids got me one as well for Christmas..took a couple of weeks to get down here. After waiting about 25 years... last one I got was a small clay pot thingy from Habitat spent about 4 hours trying to get it to light with no success...a few more days I could handle...
This baby is a whole different " Kettle of Tikka (fish)" Looks the bizzo indeed.. to give you an idea of the scale ..the skewers are about the same length as a short sword being nearly a metre long. Haven't cooked properly with it yet as it needs a few burns to get bedded in for slapping on nans etc. But being a Scot I couldn't stand firing it up and wasting the charcoal so I used the grill insert to cook some sausages and kebabs ...Yum..
see link for oven.

They are made
Once I get cracking with it I will post some feedback on how it performs.

cards. hope you all have fun :)

I had a bit of trouble getting hold of some charcoal, seems a lot of places don't stock it during the Winter.I found some today at my local garage. It does take a couple of burns as said before I can try some naan breads.

You've got to admit jb that a request for charcoal in the middle of winter is unusual, but then again only if you don't own a tandoor ;D

The assistant did give me a really funny look actually when I put it on the counter.I explained it was for my new tandoori oven(she was Asian by the way)...she couldn't stop laughing!

Hi JB,
As winter is usually the time for bonfires, why not kill two birds with one stone and make your own charcoal :)
How to make your own charcoal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNygH_09CwQ#ws)
There's a guy in my village who makes a huge amount each year on a still day and fills the whole place with an eerie smoky fog.
Frank. ;)

I tried my oven this afternoon, very impressed so far.Only cooked some plain chicken(no marinade) basically just to get a feel of the thing. It got hot, very blooming hot can't imagine putting my arm in for the naan breads!!! It cooked the chicken just right;a little charred on the outside but really moist inside.Hopefully if he weather continues I'll start to do some real stuff.

Nice one jb. Better equip yourself with a welding gauntlet for the naans ;D
