Post by: jimmy2x on January 01, 2010, 01:22 PM
its been years since ive seen such bad snow and i live in highlands and islands. i work away in isle of lewis and live in fort william, bottom of ben nevis.

The ground has had permanent snow and ice for a month now.

ive seen deeper snow but never such a prolonged period of freezing cold, heck its been basically -10 to -14 for weeks at night. Its snowing heavy just now again

hows everyone else fairing in there part of the country the now.

ps> last night i never had a drink ( prob only scotsman)

happy new year

Sounds like Canada in winter! Strange thing is that it has snowed once in Toronto this year, which melted away fast. Almost tropical!

Thank god for global warming...

Josh.

Here too. We have devastatingly cold winters here sometimes. It's the damned wind from Canada in fact. We had just under 2 feet of snow for two days. The first day it reached nearly 80 according to the outside thermo. But the rain really saw it all off in the same time it took it to fall.

All in all its up and down like a yoyo. Even the heating system here is confused.  ::)

In fact, it will only make it up to 15 degrees today....

If you were to watch the news on TV today you would think that snow had just been invented but we have had snow sitting here in North East Scotland for the past three weeks and it doesn't look like clearing.

Two Sheds,

Try mixing the ginger wine with whiskey for a whiskey mac, it's delicious and will warm you up even more :)

I'm back home and living just inside The Brecon Beacons on the Black Mountain.
It snowed heavily last night and part of today.
The snow began to thaw then the water and slush froze solid.
The ice is lethal! :o

More snow forecasted for tonight.

Also out of curry.

I made good use of my time yesterday. The kids wanted an igloo so they got one. My wife thought I was mad when I'd managed to lay the first layer. Luckily I called in some reinforcements but it still took close to 7 hours to complete! (I'm on the right) We are all going for a curry tomorrow night to congratulate ourselves. Inside is big enough for 4 - 5 adults quite comfortably. We had 2 adults and 6 kids in it yesterday.

Thanks guys, it was hard work but worth it in the end. Apparently it was on BBC Breakfast yesterday morning but I missed it :(

The local paper (Star Courier for those in the area) said they would come out today to take some photos. Our neighbours took some photos (while we were out) and sent them to the Guardian. I'll be gutted if they get in without me getting a mention.
