How much chilli powder did you use cummo?
How much does the recipe call for?
Without a list of ingredients of what you used its hard to say whats made it too hot

Cut down on both the amounts of chili powder (1/2 tsp each) or just omit the chili powder and leave the Kashmiri chili powder in. If its then to mild add a bit more chili powder next time you are cooking it. Its a bit trial and error discovering you heat tolerance. Some people on here are happy with korma's etc which aren't really hot and others like their curries to taste like a nuclear furnace ;D

Why is he waving the bay leaf and cassia around in cold oil at the start of the video? Is it some kind of ritual?

I think the obvious thing to have done, would have been to have posted your question direct to the video creator on Youtube Cummo22.
Whilst members on here will try and help, the best reply would come from the producer of the video rather than us trying to second guess his response ;)

Good observation Sverige. I'm still trying to work that out too :D
