Im sure this has been talked about before but I couldn't find anything, has anyone tried the of-the-shelf garlic puree in tubes rather than going through the hassle of making fresh?  Is there much of a noticable difference?

Cheers

CK,

I have been using the Jars you can purchase in Tesco, both Garlic Puree and Giner Puree.  Ive never really bothered with fresh and i am happy with my results.
Its only like ?2 for a jar.

go to the indian grocers and you will find jars of rajah and Nishaan minced garlic, minced garlic and ginger , minced ginger and minced coriander . These are ?1 a jar and are almost as good as the real thing. The restaurants definitely make theirs fresh though.
I make a batch of each and freeze it in ice cube holders. THis is as good as fresh

I use garlic puree from a tube for my dishes (following Mark S's observations of his local Indian). I don't use ginger in dish preparation, so its not an issue. When making my base (Dhillon style) I use fresh ginger and garlic.
