Here are some things I think sound wierd about this:
I don't understand the use of both dried AND fresh varieties of the same ingredient. I always thought it was the tomatoes that caused the scum.
Does that sound a bit on the lemony side to anyone else?

Also, whats on the CD? Maybe some authentic Indian music to let you really enjoy the flavours of India? :P

Curry Base Chat / Tomato Soup and something sour
January 03, 2008, 02:30 PM
I'm back in St Andrews for a few days so nipped along to The Balaka for my take out Madras. I have a broken finger with a bandage on and got some sauce on it. For the past day or so I've been smelling and smelling the sauce trying put my finger (no pun intended) on the aroma. I am now convinced that it's Heinz Cream of Tomato soup. There is also a sour, bitter smell. I'm quite sure about the soup though!

I talked to the Muslim shop keeper near my house and he said that Pakistanis tend to buy shops and Indians tend to open restaurants... :-\

That's odd. I always thought that India was mostly Hindu and Pakistan was mostly Muslim... Why then isn't this proportionately represented by the Indian restaurant owners?

As for bad language - well it really isn't necessary
I'm inclined to agree. I'm partial to a swear word of two ::) especially during banter. I'm also partial to toilet, sexual and general immature humour. However it would obviously be out of place on this forum as for me, this is more of a classroom / open floor for those of the curry making persuasion.

I assume that most Indian Restaurant owners are likely to be Hindu? I ask because I'm genuinely curious.

It is a tough one indeed! Firstly, I go to Indian Restaurants to purchase British Indian food, if you could call it that. If they presented me with authentic Indian food, I would be disappointed and annoyed.
Then, I expect to hear genuine Indian music and see genuine Indian interior decoration. To put the icing on the cake, I prefer to be surrounded by an all Indian staff. It seems ridiculous! :-\
That said, would anyone want to come to "Bobby Bhuna's BIR", genuine British Indian cuisine served by pasty Scots with Artex on the walls and Sidney Divine playing in the background?

I went over to the dark side this afternoon and it seems that anything interesting wants paying for!!! Sadly this meant that I was unable to view and hence comment on the image of the pale Bhuna recipe. It strikes me that for a spin off from this site, it's awfully similar in layout.
