Hi Guys

Thanks for all the tips! - suppose the key is to be wary of extra-cheap kit. Like everything in life I suppose.

Interesting what you say about the volume etc. The Tikka from my locals always has quite a big skewer hole through the middle of it, much bigger than the tiny little BBQ skewers I currently have make. Funny to think, things like that could make such a difference.

I love your pics Jerry, you have inspired me to try cooking Tikka in my Chiminea too.

Regards

Hi

Welcome to the forum.

I buy most of my stuff online at this shop, they do free delivery if you spend over ?30, otherwise it is ?5 ish for next day delivery. A fiver does sound expensive if you only need a couple of packets of spice, but if you order a massive bag of rice and some jars of pastes then its really good value!

There are many great bases on the site, some of my personal favourites are CA's, Razors and Admins.

As has been pointed out recently, try to make everything exactly as the original poster specifies for a while when you first start to make the recipes.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi

Spices Of India:

Q) Are the skewers on this (http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/acatalog/Tandoor-Oven-and-Accessories.html) page the same as the ones pictured with your Tandoor ovens?

A) Yes, they are the same skewers. As they are hand made they do differ slightly in Length/Girth?

Garden Gift Shop:

Q) How many skewers do you get for ?10 please?

A) Yes, it is one skewer. They are 22 inches long, and now made from stainless steel!

The shaft is 6mm thick.

Very high quality.

Hi

Well found! nice 1.

Eventually I found this too: http://www.gardengiftshop.co.uk/catalog/metal-kebab-skewers.aspx?pid=111877

I have emailed them to ask how many of them you get for the ?10 price.

Always worries me ordering stuff with no picture or decent description. I'll email the Spices Of India people and ask for a better description.

I'm up for what you suggested if they are what we want!

cheers

Hi

I have been searching online for ages for some skewers like these:

http://s266.photobucket.com/albums/ii262/jerrym07/Tandoor%20Tikka/?action=view&current=tandoor002.jpg&newest=1

BTW - is that Jerry from the forums online photo album?

Does anyone know where I can get some please? I have been round the local town and can't find any there in the cooking shops or asian type grocers etc.

Thanks

Hi

Please can someone confirm what the 'tandoori powder' is? is it a pre-mixed powder or a custom blend?

Many thanks

Hi

How are you planning to cook the steaks? grill, griddle pan?

I'm sure I am teaching a hen to suck eggs or whatever the phrase is, but don't forget to let the steaks reach room temperature before you cook them, and oil the steaks not the pan and only turn once ;)

Can't wait to see how they turn out!

cheers

Hi guys

@All, Thanks for the replies and info :)

Just FYI, I never payed much attention to the Under Cover Curry page on Tikka as at first glance it seemed not to provide any revelations. However a quick read last night and the book states that pre-cooked chicken is marinaded for the tikka.

The books method to pre-cook chicken is basically to boil in in base sauce thinned with water, so Commis suggestions are probably along the right lines if not completely spot on.

Cheers
