Have been meaning to give JB's base a go for ages now, and finally have the need for more base gravy, so I intend to make it this week sometime.

There is a huge number of pages on this thread, and rather than read through each post, can someone please answer some questions...

1) Onions 3kg - Is that peeled weight or unpeeled.  Probably being pedantic right ?
2) Red AND Green Pepper, or either ?
3) After adding the garlic tarka to the base, and then cooking further, the base is blended again right ?
4) I plan to use 2Kg onions, so will scale recipe down accordingly.  I'll use about 4 cloves of garlic for the tarka.  Seem right ?

Thanks in advance.

Great looking madras Andy.  In what way was the cooking order different?

rshome123 hi I also made snoopy final base as he was kind enough to mail it to me, I thought it made great curry and the parsnip made it very creamy for me :D I liked it very much as a madras.
Defiantly not a waste making a batch of his base.

Oh, the irony - I was going to make Snoopy's final base with parsnip, but it has taken me forever to get through the batch of the original clone base I had because I made extra.  In the meantime JB posted his TA experience.  Plus I've been diluting it to the consistency of JB's base - which has improved my results with it quite a bit.

I think after all the rave reviews, I am going to try JB's first.  I am still curious to try the parsnips at some point to see what their effects are on the flavor, too.

Indeed Zap... same situation for me. I had only just made a batch of the original "final" snoopy base, when at least 2 others popped up, then the 'BIR Curries' wild goose chase forum experiment (which I tried ... it's ok but not quite there).  Now JB's base.

I'm almost afraid to make a batch of JB's base in case a new recipe appears the day after.  Will try making smaller quantities in future.

Yes, I was referring to Snoopy's initial base which he fatefully referred to as "final". Haven't tried any of his other ones... Always have had older base to use up.

Will be making JB Base soon, perhaps next week or the week after.

I don't seem to be eating as much BIR at the moment, so my base batches last a long time.

MA... Am still using Snoopy's "final" base (ironically his first one). Makes good curry.

Good photography there MA.  I'm salivating for another curry.  Also, must make JB base soon as I'm almost out of Snoopy's.

Hi Jerry,

I 'THINK' I know what you are saying, although I wouldn't read too much into it.  Your (our/everybodies) tastebuds for BIR differ, as is the way we communicate our preferences to the waiter.

Had a meal at the Indish in Stockton Heath, Warrington, a couple of weeks ago (used to be the Hilal). Disappointed to say the least. Chicken Madras..... basic can do better myself, chicken was rubbery.

Hope you are well.
