UF, you been banned aswell ???

Onion Bhaji may have multiple meanings and names in different languages.
In the BIR context, you must use Gram Flour aka Besan, made from Chickpeas.
BIR Bhaji is a dry mix, Pakora is a wet batter mix. All great Indian snack food, yum :P

I make all varieties ;)

Tandoori and Tikka / Re: Tandoor vs Grill

For the last two years i have been using Blade's recipe, before that it was Just Tandoori Masala /garlic/kashmire chilli powder/Yoghurt, marinaded overnight. My daughter prefers the Tandoori based one so thats what i am cooking tonight,

mickyp
Huge difference in taste and texture and cooking enjoyment. ;)

Nothing really compares to cooking in a real tandoor oven.
Its all in the doing and understanding what a tandoor oven is and how it functions.
Conduction, Convection, Radiant Heat, Smoking and cooking meat from the inside out, with the skewers.
All the heat transfer processes in one place/pot

Would be easy to spot non Tandoor oven versions even with these basic beginners recipes.
Any type of kebab is better from a Tandoor.
Exactly the same situation with Naan.

That looks great, if you got that filled to the top you could easy serve 150 people.
Nice to see fellow curry obsessed, posting on cR0.

I have similar, but they call them Stewpans, which are wider, rather than tall.
i.e. 45cm wide 20cm tall = 50ltrs

The thicker the gauge Ally the better, usually 303mm these days, but the old ones were about 6mm.

curry on ;)

A 4ltr to 7ltr pot is ideal for the home BIR enthusiast.

mickyp
You have a 40ltr pot,  8) love to see you take a photo of that one, with its measured diameter  and height.
Unusual to have one that size in the home. :D

Grow Your Own Spices and Herbs / Re: Curry Leaves

Great looking curry leaf tree you have there mickyp

Love to grow one myself, but its not going to happen.

I just have to rely on my local Asian Store.
@1.39GBP still cheap enough for its unique flavour.

Thanks JB.
Ive been creating various forms of Masala Fries and these Potatoes,
what I would call Zeera Aloo, will make really tasty Masala fries, deep fried crisp and dusted with a Chilli/Chat powder mix.

I've worked alongside BIR Chefs creating special dishes, where they do poached/confit Potatoes in oil with spice, mainly Haldi,
which gives the Potato the look of sliced Mango when plated. Not to my taste, but Hey Ho.

Good to see different approaches  to BIR

My question is what are these precooked potatoes used for?
They remind me of TA chips in size, but those are just half cooked blanched in oil. Averywhere.

Giving these a veg Bagar as discribed, would be a good short cut if they were heading for Bombay Potato type dish
but would have to be a good seller to warrant this precook and Bengali 5 spice is not to all customers tastes, so a bit risky.

Chewy thanks for the clarification, it would appear the Andy (Andy2295) referred to in the previous topic had also migrated to the other forum. Either way thanks  again.

Regards Pap rika

No, he did not migrate, as you put it. He (Andy2295) created the RCR forum in 2007ish as I stated
and still runs it, as far as Im aware.

Andy is the guy who set up

http://www.secretcurryrecipes.com

Years before Les Jones (CA) set up his cR0 copy site.
Both of which are pay sites in some way or another.
N.B. cR0 still being free and a useful resource for beginners
