I'll have to get over to the corner shop then. He sells the dry packet but I don't think he has the paste which is why I asked.

That tikka looks proper lush. I know you mention Lazizza tikka botti paste, but there's a dry packet as well. Do you know if they're interchangeable? Never actually tried this and might give it a go.

November 25, 2022, 02:15 PMQuote from: livo on November 25, 2022, 01:31 AMWhat base gravy did you use?
I used MDB's balti base livo. And plain chicken breast. I'd have preferred precooked chicken but had run out. Try it with the spices to spec to see if you think, like I did, that it might be better with plain mix powder instead. Also I used about a fistful of methi which I'm guessing is about three tablespoons or there abouts.

Well I tried it and it wasn't bad at all. The emphasis is definitely on the methi though with the quantity used so if methi isn't your thing you're never going to like it. I'd probably use just mix powder next time instead of the tandoori masala, turmeric and garam masala combo as I didn't feel it hit the spot.

Crikey! Just spotted the "handful of dried methi".
Can't help feeling that's a typo although what's a "handful" anyway? I imagine it's an open palm rather than a fistful. I have no objection to that quantity myself but it would definitely qualify the dish as a methi chicken and mushroom rather than just chicken and mushroom. Certainly looking at the other ingredients this will be much more up my street than the basic and indisputably bland basic chicken balti

I think a bit of the naan was just bent over and relaxed back into its normal position, just coincidental timing. Either that or it was very happy to see the curry.
Also glad it was only 5 seconds in as that was 4 seconds more of his voice than I can take.

Nice to see you back Jerry. We'll have to get you going on the balti recipes again so you can confirm that they are bland

I tried the MK2 version and, well, still bland I'm afraid. I was really hungry so I actually enjoyed the basic chicken balti I made but I just can't escape the blandness of this balti curry. I think if balti was the only type of curry I'd ever had I'd probably be ok with it but when I've had standard BIR fare to compare it to it just doesn't work for me. The base is still great though so no loss.

Secret Santa - I made a standard Balti last night but added a half a tsp of naga paste and must say that it was very very nice.
That won't work for me. I love naga chilli paste, as a dip for nachos. But in a curry, no thanks. In any case I'm quite happy using the base with just a teaspoon or so of mix powder and a bit of chilli powder. That's sort of baseline acceptable in the flavour department for me with this base.
I'll be trying the base again soon though using your new method.
