For the last two years i have been using Blade's recipe, before that it was Just Tandoori Masala /garlic/kashmire chilli powder/Yoghurt, marinaded overnight. My daughter prefers the Tandoori based one so thats what i am cooking tonight,

Huge difference in taste and texture and cooking enjoyment. ;)

Nothing really compares to cooking in a real tandoor oven.
Its all in the doing and understanding what a tandoor oven is and how it functions.
Conduction, Convection, Radiant Heat, Smoking and cooking meat from the inside out, with the skewers.
All the heat transfer processes in one place/pot

Would be easy to spot non Tandoor oven versions even with these basic beginners recipes.
Any type of kebab is better from a Tandoor.
Exactly the same situation with Naan.

cheers Chewy

I didnt use it last year cos of things going on (DIY) this year for fun i will do a test with the family.

Since I have a fan oven but not a tandoor, if you were to post your preferred chicken tikka recipe (or link to it in your reply), I would not mind trying it and letting you know whether the oven home-cooked version compares favourably with locally-available tandoor-cooked versions.

Tandoori and Tikka / Tandoor vs Grill
March 02, 2019, 02:27 PM
I have got a Puri clay tandoor oven ( round one) which i cook chicken tikka in, i also use our electric oven on hot air grilling to do the same.
with the electric oven i place the chicken( large bitesize chunks) on skewers about 3" from the top temp at 280c for about 5 mins per side, the chicken has charring to the edges and high points but remains juicy and looks like its been in the tandoor.

Does anyone on a taste test feel confident they could tell the difference between oven / Tandoor ?

Sadly I fear it is only a matter of time before some of the CRO hard-liners start to feel threatened by this influx of 'foreigners'; these unskilled migrants coming here and taking up valuable forum space from the hard-working indigenous forum population.

That smacks of "project fear" Garp.  I hardly think it is likely for obvious reasons which I've no need to explain to you, as you've been here long enough to know.  However, new members will have to get used to the "characters" on here and their little ways.

Its just a group of likeminded individuals, personally i dont know anyone from the  other forum well, i only know them as fellow hobbyists to bounce ideas off and share experiences, so really its just individuals joining rather than a group so to speak,

Alternatively jalfreziT, post your interpretation of the madras and give credit to Westy providing the inspiration for your take on on his recipe.  For those disaffected members from the dark side now joining CR0, firstly a warm welcome.  It will be good to see new members posting about BIR and there experiences of cooking it and mastering the art.  Secondly, don't feel too much angst about replicating information on here.  A very large proportion of the darkside's initial and subsequent content was plagiarised from this forum in the first instance, as many members from here who have visited stalag BIRCurries can testify, myself included!! And for those who don't know, Westy (under a  different  "nick") was a member here for some time before being lured elsewhere.

Interpretation is "cool" that would work :)

Interestingly CA was always a stickler for asking if people posting "recipes" had the authors permission, which is fair and both right and proper.
Now if people on that forum develop dishes as we do by experimenting and then share the recipe and results on that forum like a :cloud: base storage, they now find themselves in a position where without paying they can no longer access their own creations / recipes,

Do you use them to make pastes and stuff as well as cooking with them?, you have a lot of plants there.

Their looking good, what are they?

Frozen, yep quite a few gardening type forums said no probs, + RHS store frozen seeds for future use, so i will post how they get on.

Looks like I won't get to see what happens next.  :)

My last post resulted in a permanent ban.

Yes you won't receive any personal abuse from me, but you will get a fair, honest and polite opinion (as has been the case with all my posts on the internet).

Your choice whether to publish it, as my posts now seem to be subject to moderation before they are viewable. I have to wonder if that makes me feel trusted.

And there is my dilemma. I know I have the option to become a paid up member but what is my own trust level of what I might receive in return?

I know that many of those who openly shared their own recipes, and other helpful information with this community, are now somewhat disappointed that,
a) they cannot access their own content without "paying to view", and b) someone else is now financially benefitting from "selling" the content they gave so freely in the first place.

Previously and on many occasions I have supported your right to do what you wish with your forum, and that opinion remains unchanged. However I have some concern that you have made a grave error of judgement in taking the forum in this direction. You may have bitten the very hand that feeds the forum.

Written, as always, with the very best interest of those who wish to share enjoyment of their hobby with like-minded folks on the internet.

It's up to him what he does with his forum. I'm not going to criticise him. My only sympathies are with those who have lost their old home to share their hobby.

Luckily quite a few have now migrated to this community. Hopefully we can bring some energy, enthusiasm and helpful information.

Well all i said was Eloquently put and i support every word and i got banned as well....

Hey ho onwards and upwards, Chicken Tikka tonight, pics to follow.
