I just use 5g = 1TSP with this kind of thing and its fine (pats recipes do the same as I recall)

Thanks for all this great info, can I confirm that generally the ratio of oil to base is 1:2? so 1 third oil, 2 thirds base

The BIRs I have witnessed first hand use dry
Their process is to add tomato paste to the hot oil followed by the spices, one chef I spoke to said the tomato pastes main job at that point is to stop the spices burning

Hi Bob,
I've got a lot of curry cookbooks (dont we all ;D) and would recommend the curry lovers cookbook by Mridula Baljekar. Good recipes, all with full colour photos showing final dish and stages.
