here's a couple of pics of some home grown chillies

not my own unfortunately, my parents grew these..Hungarian Wax variety I believe. (well so they told me, looks like some jalapenos have crept in there. lol)

first time growing chillies...good job methinks

Grown in sunny Glasgow..this is probably about 1/20th of the crop from a tiny wee greenhouse...rock on ma mum n dad :)

love chapatis

3 or 4 at a time with my curry

simple to make....no faffing about weighing things and waiting...waiting...waiting...for yer naans

count me in on the chapati side.

although, if I'm eating out, it's always a naan

Quote from: mr.mojorisin on August 09, 2014, 04:14 PMif anyone tells me these are simply run of the mill dried red chillies then they are talking out their ar$e

But does it really matter when 99% of BIRs must be using bog standard packet chilli from Rajah and the like? Or is this more of a traditional Indian ingredient chat?

SS, i was simply saying that these are the real deal regarding Kashmiri chilli

for what it's worth, these add a real depth of  flavour to any curry dish

some dried Kashmiri chillis bought from KRK - local indian grocers in Glasgow

if anyone tells me these are simply run of the mill dried red chillies then they are talking out their ar$e

more purple than red, it's the camera flash that is making the colours less profound :)

last picture probably does more justice to the deep purplish colour

cheers Garp

bit by bit pictorial...more enticing methinks.

anyhow..does anyone use the dried kashmiri chillis that are pictured ?

i added them chopped into a curry and they simply rehydrated, giving a great flavour to my dish.

i'm thinking of grinding them in a pestle and mortar to make my own ground chillis.

does anyone have any other ideas???

in my limited experience, I had fruit on the plants and always picked them when green and left them approx 2-3 days then they turned red.

for some reason they never turned red on the plant, no matter how long i left them ????
